Josephine (Josie) Czerkawski, of Brandon, MB passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024, at the age of 96 at Fairview Personal Care Home. Josie was born on March 21, 1928, and raised in the north end of Brandon. She was the fifth of six children born to Frank and Rose Yablonski.
Josie married Walter Czerkawski on October 20, 1951, and they raised three children, Kathy, Barrie, and Brian. Josie’s life was dedicated to her family. She was a wonderful cook – especially known for her perogies and cabbage rolls. She always made sure no one left the table hungry. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, crocheting and stopping in at any casino. Josie’s favorite place was the cabin at Thomas Lake, where many summers were spent fishing, visiting with friends and family, and enjoying the peace and quiet. Walter and Josie travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, and they never forgot to bring back a souvenir. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding immense happiness in their presence.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband Walter (2010) and their daughter Kathy Clark (1996). She is survived by her sons Barrie (Desiree) and Brian, grandchildren Erin (Jon) Nairn, Brandon Clark (Kerry Leandre), Logan Clark, and Lori (Josh) McDonald, as well as great-grandchildren Madelyn, Annika and Alex Nairn and Tessa and Kinsley McDonald. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Elsie Czerkawski and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Fairview Personal Care Home for their care for the past two years.
In accordance with Josephine's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at the Brandon Municipal Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Walter.
If friends so desire, a donation may be made to a charity of choice.
