Gwen Spring beloved wife of the late James Spring passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with her family by her side at Rivers Personal Care Home.
Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her children Harold (Linda), William (Jennie), Kenneth (deceased), Arlene (Cyril), Timothy (Sue), Wayne (Rosa), Leonard (Tina), Myrna (Jack), Elaine (Thomas), 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Gwen was born in London, England to Sidney and Gertrude Read. At the young age of 18 months, she immigrated to Canada with her family. She resided in Ninette, Manitoba until she met and married James Spring in 1940.
Like many women of that era, Gwen was left to raise a young son while her husband went off to war.
Gwen and Jim’s life journey took them to live in several towns in Manitoba, finally settling in Rivers in 1971. It was a move that suited them both very well. Gwen loved her town. Bingo was her passion, at 102 years of age she boasted that she could still play 15 cards.
She was previously a member of the Rebecca’s and the Rivers Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Brandon Regional Hospital E R and the Rivers Personal Care Home for the care afforded to her during her brief illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rivers United Church, 339 Main Street, Rivers, Manitoba at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024. Interment will follow at Rivers Cemetery with a reception to follow at Rivers Legion.
Donations in memory of Gwen may be made to the Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 933, Rivers MB R0K 1X0 or Rivers Personal Care Home, Box 428, Rivers, MB R0K 1X0.

It is with great sadness that the Spring family announces the loss of our beloved mother Gwen Spring on Thursday, April 25, 2024, with family by her side.
A funeral service will take place at the Rivers United Church in the weeks to follow.
