DAVID (GERALD) SPEERS

March 9, 1954 - April 29, 2024

It is with sadness the family of Gerald Speers announce his sudden passing at his cottage in Killarney on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Gerald was born March 9, 1954, the only child of David and Olive Speers from the Alexander district.

Raised on the family farm near Alexander, he enjoyed hockey, softball, curling and snowmobiling with friends around the community. Upon high school graduation Gerald worked for a year at the Brandon woolen mill and then moved onto 15 years with Federated Coop Feed mills. Gerald, together with his brother-in-law, bought Prairie Liquid Feeds in 1990 and continued to work at this business until retirement in 2021.

Gerald married his high school sweetheart Glenda Oliver and together they raised two sons in Brandon.

He was very active in his boys’ sports activities, coaching or managing teams and on the executive board of Brandon Youth Hockey for many years. Gerald was also involved with Brandon men’s softball and golf league executives and curled competitively and recreational for many years.

Gerald enjoyed time spent at their cottage in Killarney and especially the “bonding time” on the golf course with Glenda and playing in the Killarney seniors golf league. Some favourite memories were made with many winter vacations to warm Mexico and when accompanied with the boy’s families these holidays were extra special. Fun in the sun and sand with grandkids made memories to last a lifetime for all.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents David and Olive Speers, in-laws George and Marjorie Oliver and nephew Chris Ross.

Fond memories are left to remember by Glenda, sons Garrett (Tara), Geoff (Meghan); granddaughters Logan, Kenna, Emma and Cali; grandson Gage; in-laws Brenda (Steven) Pennycook, Lois (Robert) Ross, George (Dianne) Oliver and numerous nephews and nieces.

As per Gerald’s request, the family will cherish his memory privately.

Remembrances can be made to the Manitoba Diabetes Society, 1 Wesley Ave Suite 207, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6 or Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17 St E, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6.
