Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE EDWARD (ED)
GOULD JR.
The family of Ed Gould are saddened by his recent passing at the age of 70 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Survived by his sisters Jaye Read and Lesley Powell (Ken), nephews Jared (Brenda) and Lincoln (Phalyn) Powell, grand-nephews Benjamin and Nixon Powell. Pre-deceased by his wife Shelby, his parents Betty and Eddie Gould, brother-in-law Peter Read and nephew Ken Powell Jr.
Ed quietly and steadily became a hard-working achiever, enjoying drumming in a jazz band, water sports at “The Lake” as well as squash.
After graduating from St. Paul’s College, Ed completed a Liberal Arts Degree at U of M during which time he was a Professor’s Assistant and was on the Dean’s Honour List. Ed then continued his journey through Paris, Montreal and Boston before settling in Toronto with his career in corporate public relations. Ed was blessed with quick wit and a quirky sense of humour which engaged him numerous associates, many of which became long term friends. Ed was proud to be involved with the Apple team launches and the introduction of Walmart to Canada. Over the years, Ed would always come home to be with family for birthdays, celebrations and Christmas.
Travelling and Wheaton Terriers were two of Ed’s passions. Ringo and Romeo gave him much happiness. Building and living at his dream home in “The County” changed abruptly when Ed suffered a stroke in 2011. Many challenges were met and with great determination, Ed was able to overcome many difficult handicaps.
Relocating to Winnipeg in 2018, Ed’s charm and rehab enabled him to develop his own speechless communications system, which helped him live in comfort at Brightwater Senior Living. Together with his caring aide Victor, we were constantly amazed with his enthusiasm and progress.
The gift of many colleagues and friends sharing their life-experiences and admiration for Ed has made his final week with us so very special.
We thank the wonderful team at St. Boniface Palliative Care for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at The Pavilion in Assiniboine Park at 1:00 p.m.
In Ed’s memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

I’m so sorry and saddened to hear of Ed’s passing. I had the privilege of working with Ed following his stroke. He and Shelby were such wonderful people. I often commented on his movie star hair and style. Rest easy Eddie - Posted by: Frank (Friend) on: May 31, 2025

Jaye and Leslie...My sincere condolences hearing of the recent passing of your dear brother Eddie. As youngsters, I have many fond memories of him as our next door neighbour at Falcon Lake. One memory in particular was how proud he was playing checkers with my brother Ron and I and winning most of the time. RIP Eddie. - Posted by: GORDON STEPHENS (FRIEND) on: May 20, 2024

When I was a teenager I spent many hours at the Gould home on Mountbatten the recipient of the family’s gracious hospitality. Eddie, with his quick wit, seemed to love to tease me. I particularly remember the day I wore my brand new white curly jacket which he immediately assumed must have belonged to a recently deceased poodle. We all howled. RIP Eddie. - Posted by: Arroll Stewart (Family Friend) on: May 11, 2024

So very sorry to hear of Eddie’s passing. We were friends in the sixties in Tuxedo. I lived on Bower and would often hang with him in his family home on Mountbatten. He was always ready to play drums…showing me his latest skills. ‘Get Off My Cloud’ was a favourite. RIP. - Posted by: Phil Rogers (Friend) on: May 04, 2024

Jaye and Lesley, I am saddened to hear of the passing of Eddie. For me being a couple of years younger he was always the 'cool' kid at the lake. As we grew up I enjoyed my summer conversation with him. The care both of you provided for Eddie the last few years of his life was amazing. Please accept my condolence and extend my sympathy to your entire family. Linda Kaye. - Posted by: Linda Kaye (Family friend) on: May 04, 2024
