Forever Our Inspiration
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of the matriarch of our family, Anne Ponimets (affectionately known as Baba), at the remarkable age of 103. She was lovingly surrounded by her family.
Anne leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter Judi and her son-in-law Brian. She will also be dearly remembered by her six precious grandchildren, Kim (Steve), Marnie (Colin), Jenna (Willy), along with their father Ken, and Cheryl (Roy), Darryl (Verna), Ryan (Stacy), numerous great-grandchildren, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
Anne was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Max Budniak, Peter Ponimets, and her beloved daughter Louise Sanders (2020). Anne was the last surviving of nine brothers and sisters, Donald, Peter, Mike, Nick, May, Josie, Lena, and Katie.
Anne was born in Meleb, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg as a young girl. She married Peter in 1942 and raised two caring daughters, Louise and Judi, who she would always put first while working various jobs. She was a kind and compassionate woman and her presence filled a room with warmth and love. Throughout her long and healthy life, she was an exceptional caregiver to her entire family. She will forever be remembered as an example of strength, courage, perseverance and resilience. As hard as life was at times she never complained and just did the best she could.
Mom especially enjoyed all the family gatherings, celebrations and vacations to Florida, Mexico, Phoenix and the Bahamas. Gardening, cooking, knitting and crocheting were some of her favourite pastimes. Her door was always open to those needing help, a welcoming visit or a delicious meal with a cup of tea. Her exceptional Ukrainian dishes, the best ever pies and perogy making days with her grandchildren will be greatly missed.
She loved dancing to Polka music, listening to Elvis songs and having a glass of Dubonnet on any special occasion. Her long life was filled with much laughter and so many memories. Her generous spirit and enduring love will forever be cherished in our hearts.
When asked how she was doing, Mom will always be remembered by her famous quote, "Just as you see me".
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff on Unit 5 at the Charleswood Care Centre for their exceptional warmth and compassion in taking care of Mom/Baba.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with interment at Brookside Cemetery.
