DORIS A. MCCORMICK
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris (Dodi) McCormick at the age of 94.
Born in Winnipeg, Doris lived in Wawanesa, Edmonton, and Ocean Falls before settling back in Winnipeg. Doris spent most of her career with the Government of Canada, retiring from the Department of Transport. She was a proud member of the army reserves, the Canadian Legion, and the Rebekahs and Odd Fellows.
In 1958, Doris met the love of her life, Ken. Together, they shared a love of nature - camping, fishing, hunting, and enjoying summers at Birds Hill Provincial Park. Doris enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was always there to lend a hand, share a laugh, and never turned down a spirited game of cards or cribbage. She had a sharp mind and a fondness for puzzles of all kinds, with a crossword puzzle in hand and a gameshow playing in the background well into her nineties.
Doris was loved dearly by all who knew her. She will be missed as a sister to Les (Wilma) and Beth; mother to Dale and Nancy (Jay); grandmother to Cassie (Jacky); great-grandmother to Sophia; and aunt to Karin (Doug), Scott (Lisa, Jessica, and Briana), and Shelley (Dan, Nick, Emily, and Dawson). In passing, she joins her life partner, Ken; parents, Walter and Edna; brother-in-law, Art; and son-in-law, Alvin.
Doris struggled with dementia at the end of life; while she may not have always remembered us, we are comforted knowing we will always remember her.
A special thanks to the staff at Pembina Place Personal Care Home who provided such warm and loving care for Doris during her final years.
A small celebration of Doris’ life will be held later in May for close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
