The family of Margaret Isobel Collins is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the age of 88 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Cathy (Napoleon), son Gordon (Nancy), and daughter Sharon (Emil), grandchildren: Steven (Jaylene), Rachel, Amanda, Cody (Elsa), Kyle (Jayde), Jennifer (Matt), and Chantal, and great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Mila, Dawson, Keelan, Tristan, and Peyton. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Gerald, parents John (Jack) and Alice Henderson, Aunt Isobel Caldwell, and Margaret’s grandson, Max.
Mom grew up in Winnipeg and enjoyed summers with her family at the nearby beaches and at the Anglican Summer Camp in Lake of the Woods. She was active in Girl Guides and at St. Jude’s Church in her West End neighborhood. Margaret had a beautiful singing voice that was melodious, enchanting, and captivating. Many people came to hear her sing at St. Philip’s Church where she was a soloist for over 40 years. In earlier years, she sang in the Winnipeg Girls Choir and in the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir. Recently, Margaret served as the choir director in the choral unit of Sphinx Temple #116 of the Daughters of the Nile.
It was only natural that Margaret would meet Gerry through their love of music. Gerry was the organist at St. Jude’s Church and Margaret sang in the choir. Their relationship blossomed over skating, tobogganing parties, and picnics. They married in 1957, bought their first home in St. James and began their family.
Every summer they took their children camping at Falcon Lake and Clear Lake and on many trips across North America in their trailer. In 1972 they bought what became the family cottage at Grand Marais for more than 40 years. Great fun was had at the beach, playing card games, and having campfires. It became a favorite place for the grandchildren as well.
Marg and Gerry continued to travel and enjoyed visits to Florida, the United Kingdom, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. At the age of 75, they travelled halfway around the world to visit their daughters in Dubai, which Mom thought was her favorite trip of all.
Mom asked us to extend her heartfelt thanks to the staff on 3N at Grace Hospital for the kind and compassionate care she received during her stay there, as well as to the private homecare ladies who were her caregivers, but who also became her friends.
The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day,
but the love and memory of you,
shall never pass away.
“See you Mom. Love you!”
In celebration of Margaret’s life, a service will be held Friday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

I am so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing & that I found out too late to attend the ceremony. I would have loved to have paid my respects to such a lovely humble lady. I was with her briefly but I believe our short time together was enjoyed. I have fond memories of that time. She was family proud & it was very obvious that she was dearly loved. My sympathies to you all. - Posted by: Helen (Caregiver) on: May 29, 2024
