LISA MCRORIE

August 2, 1968 - April 29, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our daughter, sister, aunt, friend and most importantly mother, Lisa.

She was predeceased by her father, Douglas, in 1989 and her brother, Scott, in 2017. Left to mourn are her beloved son Quinn, her mother Valerie, and niece, Callie, as well as her many relatives and friends.

Lisa was born and raised in Winnipeg with summers spent at her happy place at the lake. Lisa’s early days were spent playing Ringette in St. James in the winter and riding horses, swimming, windsurfing, and enjoying time in Sandyhook in the summers. Lisa loved her time on 11th Ave. in the summers and spending time flying with her dad and travelling the world.

Lisa was always an excellent student, graduating from Westwood Collegiate, University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree, and getting her Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from York University. After having Quinn, she went back to school to further her education in computer programming. This was something she excelled at and used this training to work at Linnet and later National Leasing.

Lisa’s greatest adventure and accomplishment came with the birth of her son, Quinn. Lisa devoted her life to Quinn. Lisa was passionate about learning as much as she could about Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome to ensure that Quinn had the best opportunities available to him. She used this platform to connect with other families and researchers around the world and to attend national and international conferences.

Lisa was also an avid reader of fantasy novels with a great imagination and creativity. She used her love of reading, following her passion to become a writer herself. Lisa became a published author of her own series of books written under the pseudonym, Lisa Emme. This allowed her to leave the working world to continue writing, spend more time with Quinn and pursue her other passions of painting and supporting various charities. Many of us are fortunate to own a painted rock, ornament, bookmark or gift bag, and if you are really lucky you may have found a painted rock on a walk in Sandyhook. Lisa was very talented and loved singing and belonged to a number of choirs over the years.

Lisa was a strong believer of many things and was not shy about expressing her opinions. She was always willing to help out in any way she could, even as her body started to let her down after being diagnosed with Lupus. Val and Quinn will be lost without her to take care of them, and we will all miss her beautiful smile and infectious giggle. She will be deeply missed. Rest in peace Lisa.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society or CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I remember I loved to babysit Lisa and her brother when I lived on Twain Drive with my family. Her father would always let me order pizza for the kids when I came to babysit and that was a real treat! Lisa’s mom, Val, made delicious sugar cookies and would have plenty of cookies when I came. Val wrote her sugar cookie recipe down and made sure it got into a recipe book when the street had a wedding shower for me at the Neufeld’s place. I loved babysitting at the McRorie Home!!❤️❤️ - Posted by: Pat Trottier. (Used to be Mulvenna) (Babysitter/family friend) on: May 08, 2024

  • I doubt that you will remember me, but my daughter was at WWC at the same time as Lisa and we encountered you a few times on casino trips, etc. In any case, our hearts go out to you and Quinn. To lose such a young, vibrant person as Lisa defies the natural order of life that we all expect. To think of your having dealt with this injustice twice is unimaginable. Our hearts ache for you and Quinn. May the wonderful memories that Lisa will have left behind be of some solace. Our most sincere sympathy. - Posted by: Gerri Burge & Ken England (Friend) on: May 06, 2024
