Date of Passing: May 02, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD KENNETH FEHR
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Donald Kenneth Fehr on May 2, 2024, at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 92.
Dad is survived by his sons, Douglas (Shelley Will), Thomas (Michelle), granddaughters, Meghan and Katherine, sister June (Albert) Braun and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his wife Patricia and son Dr. Kenneth Bruce Fehr.
Dad was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He spent most of his childhood life in Plum Coulee and Winkler before moving to Winnipeg to attend University of Manitoba where he earned his degree in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He spent his entire career as an assessor with the Department of Municipal Affairs.
Dad met Mom while playing tennis on a Sunday morning. That chance encounter turned into 54 wonderful years of marriage. Summer vacations were spent at Clear Lake. Road trips took us to visit relatives on the West Coast and sightseeing trips to the U.S. In later years Mom and Dad discovered Hawaii. It became their passion and they then visited there annually until Mom’s health prevented them from travelling there anymore.
Mom and Dad purchased their first and only home in 1958 on Crowson Bay in Fort Garry. Community involvement was very important to Dad. Dad was an active member of Fort Garry United Church where he assumed the unofficial role as “gardener” and painter. The Fort Garry Community Centre was fortunate to have him as the volunteer icemaker for so many years.
Dad was a gifted carpenter using those skills to renovate his home, his sons’ homes, and do carpentry for anyone else that asked. He was especially proud of the screened in patio that he added on to the back of his house. The screened in patio was “the room of the house”.
Dad, your smile and sense of humour brought joy to your family and friends. We will miss that smile.
At Dad’s request there will not be a formal service; cremation has taken place. A family interment will take place at a later date.

We knew Don through his later years as we were raising our family on his street. He was always eager to have a chat and share some memories of raising his family there in years past. He was such a proud father and grandfather. He enjoyed to treat the kids at Halloween and Christmas and it was a sad year when he wasn’t able to string up his pumpkin lights. Rest in peace, Don. - Posted by: Nadine Smith (Neighbour) on: Aug 20, 2024

Doug and Tom, Mavis and I were very sorry to learn of your dad's passing. He was a great neighbour. I enjoyed our chats over the back fence, especially since we were in harmony on political matters. The Fort Garry Community Club owes a debt of gratitude to your dad, for the years he donated in making ice for the hockey players. Will Tishinski - Posted by: Will Tishinski (friend) on: May 11, 2024

I remember Don and Pat so well. As young parents, we all volunteered at the Fort Garry Community Club. We were a great group. We all helped and supported each other and had a lot of laughs. My heart goes out to the family. - Posted by: Christine Smith (Former neighbour and co-volunteer ) on: May 11, 2024
