JAMES HUNTER GARWOOD


We are saddened to announce the passing of James Hunter Garwood on May 1,2024. With family at his side, Jim died peacefully at the St Boniface Hospital.

Jim was born in Winnipeg on November 6, 1942 to George and Jessie Garwood (nee Jaworski). He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Cheryl and her daughters Angela (Dan) and Lisa, former step-daughter-in-law Rachelle Gauthier and her sons Dylan (Ashtyn), Mason and Carson, as well as numerous cousins.

Jim started his career as a high school teacher in Sprague and Winnipeg, then spent the majority of his working life with the Federal Government at CRA and Agriculture. He taught evening Business and HR courses for RRC for 18 years in Winnipeg and Steinbach. As well, he served 18 years on the St Boniface School Board and was a Credit Union Board member for years. He held two Bachelor degrees from Univ. of Manitoba as well as a Masters Degree in Social Science from Syracuse University.

Jim’s talents and passions were many. He was a woodworker and fine furniture maker and enjoyed winemaking. gardening, reading, traveling. As well. attending concerts and theatre productions were lifelong interests. He attended the Shaw Festival and visited countless wineries in Niagara on the Lake for over 15 years. The Minnesota State Fair was also a favourite destination.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. A private family gathering was held.
