SONJA KORNIK
On May 7, 2024, Sonja Harriet Christine Kornik passed at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, MB.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda Kornik, son Wade Kornik, daughter Christine (Neil) Johnson; grandchildren Julien, Tanis (Trevor), Michelle, Aron (Carly), Elizabeth (Jordan), Kevin, Lex; great-grandsons Ayden, Ryley, Ryker; her siblings Norma Wilcox, Carla (Frank) Books, Dorothy (Lawrence) Charney, Jonas Thorarinson and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie in 2023, son Wesley, brother Bradley Thorarinson and brother-in-law Kenneth Wilcox.
Sonja was born in Riverton, Manitoba on September 5, 1940, to parents Stefan and Agnes (nee Hokanson) Thorarinson. After she married Leslie in 1959, she worked at Great West Life in Winnipeg and H & R Block in Ottawa before returning to Riverton. Many happy winters were spent at their home in the Turks & Caicos, and more recently in the Dominican Republic with their youngest grandson.
A private interment will be held at a later date. Should one wish, donations in Sonja's memory can be made to the Riverton Cemetery, Box 165, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0.
