It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful and loving Father, Grandfather and Pake on May 5, 2024, 13 days shy of his 87th birthday, at Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Teresa (Bruce), son Walter, grandchildren Jenna (Sean), Daniel, Alex (Brandi) and Trevor; great-grandchildren Nolan, Aiden, Audrey and Xavien; sister Patricia; brothers and sisters-in-law George (Gisela), Johanna, Dorothy, Agatha (Paul), John (Christine); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Annie on March 29, 2024, parents Douwe and Geeske, brother Nick and numerous in-laws.
Dad was born in Leeuwarden, Province of Friesland, The Netherlands in 1937 and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1952, eventually settling in Winnipeg.
He married the love of his life Annie in 1961, having just celebrated their 63rd anniversary just before Mom’s passing. They raised their children in Transcona in a loving, caring, Christian home. Dad was a faithful member of Transcona Christian Reformed Church.
Dad’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, bowling, playing cards, and reading.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge, Willow Unit, for their care, compassion, respect and dignity shown to our Dad during his stay with you.
Our parents will be laid to rest at Sunnyside Cemetery prior to the service. Funeral service will be held at the Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. West, Winnipeg, on Wednesday May 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. For those that wish to join virtually they may do so by using the Worship Livestream link on the Transcona Christian Reformed Church website (transconacrc.ca)
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada, Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
