SALLY HOLUBITSKY

1941 - 2024

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Sally Holubitsky on January 6, 2024. As were Mom’s wishes, she passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Sally was predeceased by the love of her life, George, in 2022; in-laws, Dan and Lucille Holubitsky; parents, Orville and Blanche Darrach; brother Brian Darrach and grandson Jason Holubitsky.

Sally will be forever cherished by her loving children, Todd (Elaine), Marcie (Doug); grandchildren, Savannah (Caleb), Jordi (Caitie), Troy, and great-grandchildren, Kelton, Marley, Hendrix and Hazel. Sally is also survived by her siblings, Garth (Evelyn), Gayle, Marlene and Donald, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born in Kensington, P.E.I and was one of six children. The family relocated to Winnipeg in the 1950s and resided in River Heights where Sally graduated from Kelvin High School. It was there that she forged many friendships which were nurtured throughout the years. Most memorably, mom, along with her classmates, coordinated the “goin to beat 60 reunion” in 2001. Fifty of the ladies from all corners of the globe came to Winnipeg to celebrate four days of incredible events, culminating at George and Sally’s lake house.

Most recently, when Mom was ill, a group of the Winnipeg girlfriends shared an afternoon at our home reminiscing over school yearbooks, old boyfriends, enjoying lunch, wine and many laughs.

Mom and Dad were blessed with a great life together. Their marriage spanned over 61 years and they truly were each other’s best friend. They travelled to various countries, enjoyed multiple friendships, but most importantly, they valued family, generosity and kindness.

Mom was the mom that everyone wished they had. She offered countless hours of guidance to our friends, drove carloads of teammates to their sports, made grilled cheese sandwiches for numerous random lunches on a moment's notice, and was our study buddy for years.

Later on in life, Mom graciously shared these attributes with her grandchildren and so humbly demonstrated how easy it was to love.

Mom, we want to thank you for your unconditional love, support and brilliant advice throughout the years. You were forever grounded, devoted, authentic and a consummate friend to all. May you rest in peace with Dad. God bless.

Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Marnie Cormier of the Southern Health Palliative Care Team, Laurel Mitchell of Southern Health and to Doris, Nora and Gblee for their exceptional care and guidance provided to Mom and our family throughout her journey. As well, many thanks to Mom’s niece, Heidi Darrach, who provided comfort, love, prayers and most of all an incredible sense of humour that made all the difference in the later stages of Mom's journey.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Parish, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with reception immediately following at Breezy Bend Country Club, 7620 Roblin Blvd., Headingley.

Flowers are gratefully declined, however if you choose, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

  • Both Sally and George were wonderful neighbours. Always so kind and thoughtful. Sally shared great stories about the neighbourhood but most of all she loved sharing stories and just little things about their kids and grand kids. They were both so proud of their kids. So glad they are together again. - Posted by: Jackie and Gord Down (Neighbour ) on: Jun 01, 2024
