Date of Passing: May 07, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELAINE HELEN SHUVERA
On May 7, 2024, our mother, Elaine Shuvera, passed away at the age of 84.
Remaining to cherish Mom’s memory are her three children: son David (Karen); daughter Heather (Roger); son Robert (Gina); grandchildren, Ryan (Courtney), Kaitlin, Cassidy (Brian), and Nicole her brother Mike (Ginette) and sister-in-law Sonia Onysko, many beloved nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
Mom was born in Vita, Manitoba to parents, Anne and William Onysko where she grew up with her two brothers, Mike and James. She attended Shevchenko High School, where she met and fell in love with Ben. They wed in 1959 and raised their three children in Winnipeg. Mom and Dad were married for 53 years.
Mom worked for CIBC from 1977 to 1992 and was a valued and highly respected employee of the bank, receiving the Senior Vice President’s Award in 1990. Mom and Dad retired together in 1992 and loved to spend their time at the cabin in Belair, getting in a round of golf, or travelling to visit their kids. At the cabin they enjoyed gardening, watching the deer and hummingbirds and relaxing on the front deck.
Mom and Dad were dedicated parishioners of their Church in Transcona, All Saints Ukranian Orthodox Church for close to 60 years, serving on most church committees in the roles of secretary, treasurer, and president. Mom could be found singing in the choir, chatting with Father Wasyilw or making perogies with the ladies in the kitchen. Mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 which she fought and won.
Mom was a generous, loving person who was also an amazing caregiver; caring for her husband Ben throughout his own battle with cancer, never leaving his side. Mom and Dad loved each other dearly, and it gives us peace knowing they are now together again.
Prayers will take place at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1500 Day Street; on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saint Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Dear David, Heather, Robert and families, We send our sincere sympathies to all of you. May good memories of Elaine's love for you as well as her successful, productive life replace the pain of loss and enrich your lives. I recall happy times in youth with my cousin when the Onysko families got together during the summer holidays and in 1959, I was delighted to be her bridesmaid at a wonderful wedding in Vita. Sixty-five years ago! Ben and Elaine, devoted partners rest in peace forever. Cousin Nadia with husband Bill Evans. - Posted by: Nadia Evans (Cousin and friend) on: May 24, 2024

Our sincere condolences to all of Elaine’s family. Elaine was a very dedicated and supportive member of “All Saints” church for many years. She mentored many of the choir members in singing the various Liturgical services, with her knowledge of music, beautiful Alto voice, exceptional patience and commitment. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a positive influence for us. She was kind, thoughtful and generous. We will miss her. Вічная пам’ять! “All Saints” Choir. - Posted by: Ukrainian Orthodox Church of All Saints (Friends) on: May 11, 2024

I didn't know Elaine for a long time but in the short time when she resided at Devonshire, she would stop by the desk and I enjoyed our conversations. She shared her love of playing Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo and shared the story of her few wins at playing it. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones...RIP Elaine. - Posted by: Sharon Mouritsen (acquaintence) on: May 11, 2024
