SHIRLEY ROBERTA BENIDICKSON

(MCLEOD)

Shirley Benidickson, 70, peacefully passed away at her home in Winnipeg on May 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of her small but close-knit family.

Shirley was born in Winnipeg on June 19, 1953. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert (Bob) and Gladys McLeod, and her sister Barbara McLeod. Shirley’s life and example will continue to be celebrated by her husband of 35 years, Kris, as well as their daughter Kirsten, her brother Robert, her sister-in-law Valerie, her extended family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and generosity. Her spirit, forever etched in the hearts of those she touched, left this world more colourful and compassionate.

After graduating from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute, Shirley worked as a Senior Payroll Officer at Federal Pioneer in Winnipeg for several decades. She married Kris in 1988, and in 2000 they welcomed their daughter Kirsten. Shirley devoted her life to caring for her family, bringing comfort and warmth to their home. The cherished memories she leaves behind will be forever treasured by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

A beacon of creativity, Shirley’s artistic talents illuminated the lives of many. An active member of the Charleswood Art Group, she created incredibly detailed paintings reflecting her meticulous attention to detail. Shirley’s passion for art paralleled her love for nature, which she celebrated and preserved in her work. Her vibrant and enduring legacy continues to inspire and bring joy to all who encounter her creations.

The family extends their sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Victoria General Hospital Unit 4 North, WRHA Palliative Care Program, CancerCare Manitoba, and Dr. Felix Sikora for their incredible care.

In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, a small commemoration attended only by close family members will be arranged to celebrate her warm-hearted nature, selfless contributions to humanity, and enduring artistic impact.

In lieu of floral tributes, contributions may be directed to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, an organization dear to Shirley’s heart and a reflection of her compassionate soul.

Though Shirley may have departed from our sight, her essence remains woven into the tapestry of life through her beautiful art and the bonds of love she nurtured. Her memory will be eternally treasured, profoundly missed, and ceaselessly honoured. Shirley Benidickson’s imprint on this world - a blend of affection, benevolence, familial devotion, and creative spirit - remains indelible and ever-present.
