GRACE ANNA WALKER

(nee DAVIES)

1928 - 2024

On Monday, May 6, 2024, Grace Walker passed away in her home at River Ridge, with her children by her side.

She will be forever remembered by daughters, Linda Walker, Janet Walker (Toby Chase) and Sandra Walker (Mark Adams); grandchildren, Carleigh Forbes (Neil Goebel), Allison Forbes, Sarah Forbes, and Davis Chase (Holly Massaroni); and great-grandson Arlo Goebel Forbes.

She was predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill) Walker and sister-in-law Edna (Walker) Moyle in 2012; parents, Ralph Davies in 1962, Edith Stewart in 1943, and Runa Davies in 1988. Family includes Grace’s childhood companions from Lipton Street - Pat, Margaret and Myrtle, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends including the Moyle family and Gail White, the Paris family, and the Miller’s.

Born in Winnipeg on March 17, 1928, Grace grew up in the West End attending Greenway School, St. Mary’s Academy, General Wolfe, and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She and her soulmate Bill were married 60 years, raising their three girls in East Kildonan. She worked in retail service at the T. Eaton Company and later returned to part-time work in the credit office at The Bay. A trusted and playful companion to all, Grace is treasured as a loving and spirited force. She was an active community volunteer, a member of the East Kildonan Ladies Curling Club at Rossmere, a devoted participant in the Friday morning discussion group at Immanuel Church, and a student of yoga and tai chi. She and Bill enjoyed times and friends at Austin Lake, raising their glasses with Edna’s toast ‘aren't we lucky!’

The family extends gratitude to the entire team at River Ridge, to Dr. Bharj, and to Palliative Care.

Family and friends are invited to consider making a contribution to The Walker Family Bursary at The University of Winnipeg Foundation, or a charity of their choice.

A memorial service, with reception immediately following, will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Cremation has taken place.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Since hearing of your Mothers passing, we’ve been reminiscing. We remember her in Study Group, as our kids Grade 4 Sunday School teacher, a curler, a curling fan, at Falcon Lake bonspiel, at parties, laughing, with a very ready smile and chuckle, her not so naive responses, her checking in with the recipients of many practical jokes to see if they were laughing too, (they were! It was so fun), and mostly as a beloved friend. We admired your parents relationship and felt cared for by both. What a gift! We hold them both in our library of blessed memories. Our loving thoughts go out to you, her family. May Peace be with you. - Posted by: Bob and Muriel Kenyon (Friend) on: May 25, 2024

  • Offering my condolences to you, Linda, and your family as you grieve the loss of your mother. Although I did not know your mother, I remember how fondly you talked about her. It was so evident the strong family ties that you all shared. This is a time of sadness for you now but I know you will remember her and share many precious memories in the days and weeks and years ahead. Thinking of you in sympathy at this time. • Love you, Grace. Give Bill a stomp on the foot up there from me. ❤️ - Posted by: Reid Miller (Family Friend) on: May 18, 2024
