FREDA LILIAN DEANE

(nee BISPHAM)

July 14, 1923 - April 8, 2024

Peacefully, on April 8, 2024, Freda Deane passed away at the age of 100.

Freda was predeceased by her husband Jack, her son Geoff, and daughter-in-law, Susie. Jack and Freda were married for 57 years and were earnestly in love.

Freda will be lovingly remembered by her son Lawrie, her daughter-in-law, Anna, her granddaughters, Sarah (and Steven), Leah (and Jose), her great-grandson, Kushaal, and many others whose lives she touched over her long life.

Freda was born in London, England, but grew up in the town of Fleet in Hampshire. She met and married Jack Deane in 1946, who was then serving with the Canadian Army - Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He was stationed near Freda‘s home.

After their wedding in England, Freda travelled to Canada separately from Jack on a ship carrying only war brides. She landed at Pier 21 in Halifax and travelled to Winnipeg by train. She made her home in Winnipeg for the remaining years of her life.

Freda and Jack adored their granddaughters, spending wonderful times with them having regular sleepovers at their home, taking them to plays, Rainbow Stage, and skating in St. Vital Park. They often took them for day trips to St. Malo Beach, Birds Hill Park, and out for lunch outside of the city. Freda taught the girls to sew and to bake delicious chocolate chip cookies.

Freda had a deep love for the arts. Jack and Freda were season ticket holders with MTC for over thirty years and Freda continued to go with Leah and Jose after Jack passed away. Jack loved the symphony and Freda loved the ballet and together they never missed a show.

Jack and Freda loved to travel and took many trips over the years. They visited Lawrie and Susie in India and Geoff and Anna in Toronto. They vacationed in Greece, Italy, across the US, and made many visits to the UK.

Freda was an active member of Saint Philip’s Anglican Church all her years. She loved music. She sang in the church choir and served with the Mothers’ Union, eventually becoming its Vice President.

The family are very grateful for the kind care Freda received from Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home and from Lindenwood Manor assisted living centre.

A private family memorial was held for Freda.

Donations may be made to Meadowood Manor Foundation Inc.
