Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) FREDERICK HAROLD JOHANSON
James (Jim) Frederick Harold Johanson passed away on May 13, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Canora, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1951, Jim spent his formative years in Selkirk, Manitoba. From a young age, he embraced the outdoors, reveling in sports and occasionally mischief. Jim came of age during a time of great music and iconic cars, passions that stayed with him throughout his life. He had a zest for socializing and embraced opportunities for adventure and fun.
A man of many talents, Jim explored various careers, but his longest and arguably most prolific role was as the owner and operator of the Hotel in Alonsa, Manitoba. Living rurally provided Jim with ample opportunities to indulge in his love of hunting and fishing, a passion he shared with his nephews Jake and Lee. He enjoyed several summers running an outpost fishing camp at Nueltin Lake, where he forged unforgettable memories against the breathtaking backdrop of the northern wilderness. Jim jokingly referred to himself as the famed outdoorsman Jeremiah Johnson, embodying the adventurous spirit and rugged charm of the outdoors, and retired to what was arguably his dream location in the bush, in the RMNP area.
He is survived by his sweetheart Monica, or “Minnie” as he lovingly referred to her, her daughter Brandee (Justin), his daughters Sara (Chris), Adrienne (Tom), and Jessica, along with his grandchildren Teka, Caprice, Hudson, Dominic, Isla, and Edie. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, Lucy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lorne and Helen Johanson, and his siblings Joanie (2017), Jeff (2021), and Wendy (2023).
A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate nurses who cared for Jim with such kindness and compassion during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charitable organization or cause close to Jim's heart, such as your local animal shelter.

I can recall quite a few occasions where friends like Ray Gawryluk, Ralph Riter and I shared memorable hunts and fishing trips. Jim was blessed with a natural talent for many things especially sports. A great shot when hunting and a very, very good golfer. He was especially proud of the house and property he and Monica shared in a very scenic, private location close to Erickson, Mb. He will be missed by many, many of us. - Posted by: Russ Muth (Friend) on: May 22, 2024
