ZELMA SMITH
It is with great sadness we chose to announce the passing of my dear wife and mother of our children.
She was predeceased by her father Frank and mother Edith Irwin, sisters, Ina, Margaret, Sylvia, brothers, Earlton and Herbert and great-granddaughter Nalah.
She is survived by her husband Cecil, children, Norma, Clinton, Winsome (Madge), Jennifer, two sons-in-law, grandchildren, Dexter, Christopher, Byron, Michael and great-granddaughter Karis; sisters, Caroleigh (Lynnette), Clarice, and brother Hector as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, many friends and well-wishers.
Zelma was born in Jamaica and immigrated to Canada in 1965 choosing to settle in Winnipeg and reside with her family in St. James. After several years of employment with MTS, she pursued a career in the health care sector. After retiring in 1999, she spent winters in the US with her daughters and sisters, summers with her husband and daughter Norma in Winnipeg, and son Clint in Calgary. Zelma enjoyed cooking and baking and sharing with others especially her annual Christmas cake and Easter bun. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, travelling.
A celebration of her life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m.; viewing starting at 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada.
