Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA RUTH MUELLER
Peacefully, with family by her side, Barb went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
She leaves to mourn her husband Helmut, of 59 years, children Ralph (Christina), Annette (Mark), Robert (Nicole) and Tammy (Donald), grandchildren William, Joshua (Jenelle), Mercedes (Patrick), Amber, Serena, Paige, Car, Ian and Nolan, bonus grandchildren Kyle and Donald, siblings Gisela, Karin (John), Klaus (Vera), Dorothy (Daryl) and in-law siblings Toni, and Rosi (Gerhard), nieces, nephews and too many friends to count.
Barbara was predeceased by parents Willi and Ruth Mueller, in-laws Asaph and Hedwig Mueller and son-in-law Ken Rist.
Mom was born on September 11, 1945, in Teltow, East Germany. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1953. The family settled in the west end of Winnipeg and found a church home at the German Baptist Mission Church. She was baptized November 6, 1955.
Mom was talented. She played piano, organ and directed the ladies and German choir. She was involved with Meadowood Manor organizing the music. She sang in many trios, double trios over the years.
She worked for Klassen Funeral Chapel starting as an organist and adding hostess to her job list. She then carried on working for Friends Funeral Home which was like an extension of family.
Church was where she met her husband Helmut and was married on August 29, 1964. They started their family in 1966, raising 2 boys and 2 girls.
Mom humored dad by moving a gazillion times; packing and unpacking almost too many times to count. Their longest stay was on Henderson Highway where they were able to host many family gatherings, Rook nights, and missionary stays. As mom and dad’s health declined, they made the hard decision to leave the city life and move closer to their daughter in Morris, Manitoba.
Mom LOVED to travel, and dad obliged. As a family we traveled to Germany, BC, Alberta, and Florida. With friends they made many trips to Mexico and Hawaii. Mom and Dad made 4 mission trips to Africa over the years.
Mom had many friends and she tried to stay in contact with as many as possible. As a couple they had 2 close friendships with Art and Irma Koberstein and Rubin and Erna Piel. These couples would get together almost weekly to play their favourite card game Rook.
Family was very important to mom. Her siblings were dear to her heart, and she tried to see them as often as possible. She had lots of nephews and nieces; 3 generations of them.
Mom was diagnosed with cancer which went into remission. Approximately 7 years ago she once again was diagnosed with cancer and began chemotherapy treatment. Over the past 2 years she decided to forego treatment and enjoy life. She put all her faith and trust in her Lord who blessed her with more years to enjoy her family and friends.
We wish to thank her ever caring physicians Dr. Karen Braun, Dr. Shaundra Popowich and most recently Dr. Cornelius Woelk. We thank all the staff at Boundary Trails Hospital that cared for our Mom with grace and dignity.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Mission Baptist Church, 771 Sargent Avenue. Viewing will precede the service beginning at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Meadowood Manor Chaplaincy.
