DELORES VELIE
Delores Velie (nee Simonson) passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024, with her husband Harold and family by her side. Raised on the family farm in Fannystelle, MB she was predeceased by her daughter Robin, parents, Cecil and Evelyn, brother Gerald and brother-in-law Lyle.
Mom left the family farm to pursue her passion for education graduating from Teachers College and while raising her family she continued her education, graduating from the University of Manitoba. Delores worked for the Atomic Energy of Canada and was later recruited to work for the Canadian Council for the Ministers of the Environment. Mom was always busy, whether it was babysitting grandchildren, gardening, attending book club, volunteering at church and school meal programs, and as an accomplished pianist, often played piano for the Sherwood Park Lutheran Church Choir.
Mom and Dad had a love for travel and together travelled to 38 countries, 10 provinces and one territory. Her caring nature provided her children with steadfast support and her grandchildren and great-grandchild brought Mom her the greatest joy.
Mom leaves to mourn her best friend and husband Harold, daughter Jocelyn, son Michael (Cynthia), grandchildren, Brittney (Zenny) and Matthew (Jessie) and great-grandson Alexander; sisters, Darlene (Larry), Debbie (Darko), brother-in-law Steve (Susan), sister-in-law Shirley and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and family friends.
A celebration of Mom’s life is being held on May 25 with immediate family and friends. A private family graveside service will be held at the Pinawa Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Karen Braun, Dr. Andrew McKay, Dr.. Benjamin Goldenberg, Dr. Chris Ogaranko, CancerCare Manitoba, Lana and the Palliative Care program staff for all over their support over the last two years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation.

My deepest condolences Harold, Jocelyn, Michael and families. Velie’s were our next door neighbours in Pinawa. Delores leaves me with many beautiful memories and laughs. I worked with Delores at CCME, and she was always a ray of light in an often tense workplace. In particular, she was a source of strength and support for my fiance Lynn as Lynn battled cancer,.
