MICHAEL JAMES BROWN

January 14, 1956 – May 19, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and brother, at the age of 68.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Jack and Violet Brown.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley, sons Michael (Christie) and Ryan (Christina), grandchildren Brianna, Shayneen, Shayton, and great-granddaughter Ivory, his sisters Kim, and Alice (Marc), and brothers, Jim (Sandra), and Eric (Meriana) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was born in Keewatin, Ontario. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Winnipeg, eventually settling in the Selkirk area.

Mike and Shirley built their home and raised their boys on the family acreage, where they still reside.

Excelling in his studies, Mike advanced quickly in school, and graduated from Selkirk High School when he had just turned 17. Heading straight into college to study Electronic Engineering Technology, he was hired by IBM before he even graduated at the age of 19.

Mike spent his career with IBM until he retired, briefly returning to work with Glory Global. He always had fond memories of all of the people he worked with and his customers and was a mentor to several of the new recruits. He organized the IBM Mixed Slo Pitch team and the annual IBM golf tournament and enjoyed them both for many years.

A proud father to his two sons, he enjoyed assisting with coaching their hockey teams. As a teenager, Mike played football with the Lockport Lions, and in later years he could be found on the Mars Sandhills Golf Course every weekend. He was known for his love of animals, especially his many dogs.

At Mike’s request a funeral will not be held. Instead, he hoped you would raise a glass to him, or pop in and share a beer with the family.

If so desired, donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, or to your local animal shelter.
