JOYCE MARY COX

It is with sadness, but also thanksgiving for her life, that the family announce the passing of Joyce Mary Cox (nee Chadwick) on May 6, 2024, in her 105th year.

Born in Winnipeg on March 30, 1919, Joyce grew up in St. Vital, receiving her education at Rupert’s Land School and the University of Manitoba. After Post Graduate studies at Vancouver General Hospital, she spent five years there as a therapeutic dietitian.

Joyce was married in 1947 to Desmond Francis Cox. They settled in St. James where they raised their two children.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her son Michael, her daughter Jennifer (Kevin Mowat), and her beloved grandchildren who brought such joy to her life - Andrew Mowat and Sean, Lindsay, and David Cox. She was delighted by the recent arrival of her two great-grandsons, Cassius and Bodie. Throughout Mom’s life she greatly appreciated her son-in-law Kevin and his family, brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and her many dear friends.

Over the years, Mom’s life was enriched by decades of enjoyment at the family cottage at Victoria Beach. It was very rewarding for Mom to see her children and grandchildren grow up there over many summers. As well, Mom and Dad formed great friendships with other beach families.

Mom enjoyed many interests and pastimes throughout her life. She and Dad travelled extensively to the British Isles and loved to connect with their extended families and English friends while there. After Dad’s passing in 2000, Mom dedicated years of service to St. Andrew’s. These activities included sitting on Vestry, singing in the choir, and serving on the Alter Guild, and the Friends of St. Andrew’s. Mom also loved creating beautiful needlepoint, reading voraciously, Symphony concerts over the years with Michael, and Tuesday lunches at Jen’s.

A Service of Thanksgiving was held at St. Andrew’s on May 24, 2024, with Reverend Liz Richens officiating. Interment has occurred.

Mom was dearly loved

and will be sorely missed.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am very sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. Although she had a long wonderful life, it is not easy to lose your mother. From the short time that I knew her, she was a very graceful beautiful lady. The dedication from her daughter, Jen was a testament to her mother’s life. May she rest in peace. Jarvis and I will miss seeing her at Arbors. - Posted by: Sharon Naurocki (Friend) on: Jun 01, 2024
