SYLVIA BYDAK

(nee PODRUSKI)

July 29, 1938 - May 28, 2024

With her family by her side, on what would have been her 64th wedding anniversary, Sylvia Bydak passed away.

She was predeceased by her husband Bob, sister Wanda Toole (Frank), and cousin Ollie Chelada (Chuck).

Left to mourn are her sons, Rob (June), Dan (Nicole Berube), and Jeff (Diane Moran), and her darling grandchildren, Benjamin (Katherine Cruz), Lucas and Max.

Mom grew up in Eriksdale, MB and moved to Winnipeg as a teen. There she met a handsome accordion player named Bob, and they settled in Windsor Park to raise a family. Mom was happiest when cooking for family gatherings, and was known for her perogies and delicious baking (Meema's cookies). She was a meticulous housekeeper and took pride in everything she did.

Weekends and summers were spent in the Whiteshell at Green Lake. They retired to Silver Harbour, then Gimli, and finally Agape Villa in Winnipeg, where she formed many great friendships. Her active social life included playing cards, watching sports, lunches, concerts and casino trips. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family extends its thanks to the Palliative Care team at St. Boniface Hospital for taking great care of mom throughout her illness.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • It has taken me a few months to try to find the words to express our heartfelt sympathies to each of you on the loss of your mom, mother in law or Grandmother. I will miss her dearly as will Bob. I have many happy memories growing up and coming to Heather Road. Friday evenings were spent with the adults playing games upstairs & all us kids playing & dancing downstairs. Auntie Syl’s Christmas party mid December was so special & the meals she made were fabulous. The happy times continued at Green Lake as well; wild mushroom picking was a favourite of mine. So happy was their marriage that may she be in the loving arms of Uncle Bob for eternity. - Posted by: Laura English (Niece ) on: Dec 31, 2024

  • My deepest condolences to all of you. I just found out about your loss and my heart is completely broken for your whole family. Your Mom was such a sweetheart, a wonderful, kind woman and such an amazing cook. Sending out big hugs to all of you, especially you Jeff. - Posted by: Joanne Verrier (Family friend) on: Jul 01, 2024

  • I’ve known your mom & dad when I lived with Jo & Harry Holigroski. Both were just amazing people. I’ll never forget when my late husband Ken passed away, your parents came to my place in Libau and brought all kinds of food to get us through the tough time. They will always be remembered. May she rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to the family. Bernice & Jim - Posted by: Bernice Zapototsky & Jim (Friends) on: Jun 03, 2024

  • Our sincere condolences go out to the Bydak family. I always enjoyed Sylvia's company at our family get togethers and enjoyed going to either Max or Luca's hockey games with her cheering them on and praising them regardless of whether they won or lost. She was so proud. She will be truly missed. Rest in peace Meema. - Posted by: Monique and Denis Berube (Family) on: Jun 01, 2024
