It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Carroll, of Winnipeg on May 30, 2024, at the age of 90.
Betty was one of five children of August and Charlotte Spreen of Jackfish Lake, MB and was born on the family homestead on February 18, 1934, along with her twin sister Lily whom she shared a special bond with for their entire lives. The children lost their mother when they were very young and were raised by August until his passing in 1942. At that time the children went to live with Auntie Meta and Uncle Oscar. Auntie Meta was a blessing in the children's lives and they all loved her for raising them after their parents had passed away. Grand Marais, MB was a special place for my Mom as many of her family and lifelong friends lived there and we visited often.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her son Trevor (Sharon) and grandchildren, Sarah and Jessica, stepson Brian (Barb) and nephews, Lance (Susan), Randy, Brad (Angie), Ken (Cindy) and Martin (Elvina) and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews and friends. Betty was predeceased by her husband Peter, sisters, Hildegard (Martin), Irma (Guy), Lily (Nestor) and brother Albert. Sadly; in March of 2023, Betty lost her sister Lily, they were able to spend their last years together at Golden West Lodge.
Mom was a kind and caring soul who was concerned with the wellbeing of her family and friends, always willing to help and take care of others. Mom was also an amazing cook who loved to experiment in the kitchen wanting to introduce new recipes to her family. Betty also enjoyed gardening and had a bountiful garden that she would share with others. Family card games were always filled with lots of laughter and considered time well spent being able to catch up with others.
Her grandchildren were so special to her and she loved them greatly; as her mobility decreased she was very disappointed that she missed out on hockey and soccer games, piano and violin recitals and school plays but found joy in seeing pictures and hearing stories of what everyone was doing.
A private family celebration will be held.
