It is with deep sadness and much love Greg passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, after a brief illness, with his sister Catherine and friend Terry at his side.
Greg was born on June 26, 1957, to parents Mike and Jean Shemely and big sister "Cacki".
Greg grew up in Winnipeg's North-End attending Shaughnessy Park and Sisler High School where he excelled in all sports. He was an active player on Sisler's basketball team wearing the #12 jersey.
For a hobby, as a young boy, he raised pigeons. He was also involved in the Junior Orange Band playing the drum. Greg took his first trip to Toronto with the Band to participate in a Parade.
After graduation Greg worked for Yetmans Ltd., Pritchard Engineering and ending his career at HyPower Systems. He made many friends along the way. If you knew Greg, he was known for his sense of humour and quick-witted one-liners and always ready to lend a helping hand.
Greg had many interests throughout his life. In his younger years he snowmobiled, took many road trips on his Yamaha 750 and Harley Davidson Sportster, golfed and hunted and as of late enjoyed game shows, the daily crossword puzzle (if he was baffled by a clue was quick to find the answer on the computer) and scratching lotto tickets. He loved his Blue Bombers and Jets and any other sport that was televised. He began playing pool in the early 1990s in the CPA league. The teams "SMOKIN'" and "EXCUSE US" won the Regionals which gave him the opportunity of a trip to Vegas in 1993 and 2001 to compete in the APA World Championship. After a brief hiatus Greg re-joined CPA playing Monday evenings with "IT DEPENDS". He also played 8 Ball on Wednesday afternoons and 9 Ball Friday evenings. This past year he was asked to join an all ladies team affectionately known as "Greg's Angels".
Greg was predeceased by his parents and his faithful black lab TD. He is survived by his sister Catherine, the furry kids, Pumpkin and Smokey, his many valued friends, and relatives.
A celebration of Greg's life will be held on June 26, 2024, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (which would have been his 67th birthday) at Rae & Jerry’s at 1405 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

I remember my cousin Greg whenever we would make our annual visits to Winnipeg from Thompson. He was a few years older than my brothers and myself but always treated us with kindness and a good dose of humor. I remember riding with Greg on his Harley when I was younger and thought he was pretty cool. After moving to Alberta, we lost touch but I always wondered what my "Cool Cousin" was up to, May he rest in Peace. - Posted by: Craig Shemely (Cousin) on: Nov 29, 2024
