Ada of Rapid City, Manitoba, passed away on June 7, 2024 at the Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 95 years. Ada was born April 7, 1929 to the Bowers family of Wawanesa, Manitoba. One of nine children, Ada grew up and attended school in Wawanesa. She met up with her future husband, Reg Hamnett of Rapid City during the time he was working in a quarry just out of Wawanesa. They married and bought a half section farm just east of Rapid City, where they raised their four children Beverly, Jim, Karen and Ken. In 1978 they sold the farm and retired to the town of Rapid City. Reg passed in the spring of 1998. Ada continued to reside in Rapid City until the summer of 2012, when, after a brief illness, moved into the Valleyview Care Center. Ada remained at Valleyview, where up to a week before her passing enjoyed bingo, music, peeling potatoes, baking for the bake sales and folding bibs for the other residents.
Ada was predeceased by her husband Reg; granddaughter Jaimie; brothers George, Robert and Jack; sisters Beth and May.
Ada is survived by her two sons Jim (Darlene) with two children, one deceased and Ken (Marilyn) with three children; two daughters Beverly (George Morrice) with two children and Karen (John Gibson) with two children; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Sharon Bowers, Barb Whales and Shirley Stadnyk.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date in Rapid City.
