Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTINE DOROTHY STANSELL
Peacefully in her 98th year Dorothy, our mom, Amma and Long Amma, passed away at the Arborg Personal Care Home.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Norman (Gladys), Lawrence (Birdeen) and her daughter Valerie Zuk; seven grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren that she was blessed with, Armond (Debbie), Ksenia, Torin Stansell, Kurtis (Iris), Zenin, Kaelynn and Sophia Stansell, Ian (Cindy), Austin Stansell, Lyle (Lisa), Ragnar, Ciaran, Ciatriona, and Asta Stansell, Shawn (Jenna), Rory, Eliza and Molly Stansell, Jason (Theresa), Garrett, Sawyer Zuk, Kelly (Roland), Gavin, Ryder Tellier, also numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Maria Johnson and Monica Johnson.
She was predeceased by her husband Earl in 1975, son-in-law David in 2021, her father Steini Johnson and mother Helga Johnson, her two brothers, Victor and Louis Johnson.
Dorothy was born on the family farm in Framnes, MB and received her education at the Framnes school. She completed two years of sewing and was chosen to attend the Meadows Folk School in 1945. After completing her education Dorothy helped at home on the farm. She was an avid horseback rider in those days and did many farm jobs with horses, raking and making hay for her Dad. She spent some time in Winnipeg caring for an Aunt. She also worked in several homes in the Arborg Area. Dorothy married Earl Stansell in 1948. Earl and Dorothy began their married life in a small house on the east side of Arborg. They soon welcomed their two sons and outgrew the little house. They then purchased a larger house on St. Peters Street and added a daughter to their family. Being that they now had the space Dorothy became a landlady and welcomed many boarders to her home over the years. One of whom was with us for seven years (Kris Gudmundson) became a part of the family. When the house in town was sold they moved to an acreage west of Arborg, which was originally owned by her ancestors. This is where Dorothy resided until 1999. This took her back to town and to the Sunrise Lodge. This was home till December of this year. The next chapter of Mom’s life brought her to the Arborg Personal Care Home. Mom was always independent and was determined to remain in her own place as long as she could. She was a talented seamstress, an avid knitter and crocheter. We have many beautiful creations to remember her by. She always had an abundant vegetable garden and loved her flower beds as well. Her favourites were peonies and African violets which bloomed for her endlessly. Family was her biggest joy. She cherished each and everyone. Her walls were covered in pictures so she could see everyone all the time. Rest in peace Mom, you will forever be in our hearts.
Special thanks to the staff at the Arborg Hospital, Betel in Gimli and the Arborg Personal Care Home who helped care for Mom this past while.
Cremation has taken place, a family graveside burial will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arborg Personal Care Home or the Arborg Hospital Ladies Auxillary.
The ones we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us everyday.
No longer in our lives to share,
But in our hearts
they will always be there.
