BILL WALLACE

G. William "Bill" Wallace passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital on June 15, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife Sonja, his son Bryan, and Bryan's wife Michelle. Bill was born on February 2, 1935, in Winnipeg.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary, his sister Mary, and his brother Frank.

Bill grew up in Fort Rouge and attended Riverview, Lord Roberts, and Gordon Bell. He joined the Air Force four days after his 17th birthday and was first stationed with the R.C.A.F. in St. Jean, Quebec. Throughout his 22-year military career, he was posted to 13 locations across Canada, including Goose Bay in Labrador, Resolute Bay, and Moosonee, Ontario. Bill was proud that his grandson Brandon also pursued a career in the Canadian Forces.

After retiring from the military, Bill transitioned to a civilian career in property management. He married the love of his life Sonja Chernecki on July 13, 1968, in Pine River, Manitoba. Together, they made their homes in Winnipeg, Shilo, Portage la Prairie, and Brandon, Manitoba.

Bill loved sports, particularly the NHL, CFL, NFL, and boxing. He had a mind for statistics and was an internet database before Wikipedia.

He was the biggest Al Jolson fan in Canada and schooled the CancerCare Radiation technicians on the "World's Greatest Entertainer." He survived his first diagnosis of Cancer in April 2020.

Bill was a man of quotes and advice and would state that "no man is an island". Bill loved coffee with the contractors, blockbuster movies with Sonja when Hollywood made real movies, and an enjoyment of dining out.

A funeral service followed by Reception will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Wojcik's Funeral Chapel located at 1020 Main Street, followed by interment at Chapel Lawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
