DIANE DZYDZ
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Diane on June 17, 2024.
Diane was born in Gimli, Manitoba on June 4, 1949, and grew up in Arnes, Manitoba.
Diane was predeceased by her parents, Margaret (1959) and Michael (1977) Dzydz and her brother Barry (2013) Dzydz.
Diane started her professional career as a Registered Nurse. In 1979, Diane entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. She practiced law at Legal Aid Manitoba for 32 years.
Diane is survived by: sisters, Linda Dzydz and Donna Dzydz; sister-in-law Penny Dzydz; nephews and nieces, Eric, Stefan Hasinoff, Kristine (Evan) Hardman and Signey Dzydz; and grandnephews and nieces, Kylee, Charlie and Harrison Hardman.
Family meant everything to Diane. She made time in her busy life to attend her nephews’ and nieces’ soccer and hockey games, music concerts and dance recitals. She enjoyed and cherished her time with the next generation - at the playground or simply reading a book to them.
Diane was an independent spirit and she loved to spend time in Arnes at the family homestead. It was her zen place - her Arnes Nest. She would often be seen going for walks, riding her bike to the lake, walking along the lake shore, collecting beach glass, hiking on walking trails, and connecting with nature. Chickadees were her favourite birds.
Travel, dinners, concerts, afternoon tea at the lake, trips to Pickerel Lake, and listening to music were some of the activities Diane cherished and shared with family and lifelong friends she made along the way. This past winter she even renewed her interest in skating and cross country skiing. Diane loved life. She welcomed its gifts with joy and curiosity and accepted its challenges with grace and dignity.
Sun finally here. Beautiful day. Just got back from a long walk in the forest.
Many thanks to Joe for being a special friend to Diane and for introducing her to new adventures and creative fun in the music studio. Thank you to cousin Norma for helping Diane when she needed assistance in Arnes. The family would also like to thank the staff at CancerCare, especially Dr. Vallerie Gordon, Dr. Bryan Janzen, and Nurse Stephanie, and Dr. James Bras at the Health Sciences Centre, Respiratory Clinic, for their kind and compassionate support.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in Arnes, Manitoba at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Arnes Cemetery Association, Box 300, Arnes, MB, R0C 0C0 or to cancer research at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.

I met Diane in 2020 as a result of the struggle to keep Arnes Lutheran Church in the community. We began as allies and became friends. I recognized her personal strength and determination from the outset, and her willingness to devote herself entirely to a cause in which she believed. She adored her grandniece and grandnephews. She often spoke of them to me, and showed me photographs. I have drawn great strength from her on many occasions, especially when she chose to share with me elements of her journey, and to give me encouragement and the benefit of her wisdom. I miss her every day; and will continue to do so. - Posted by: Catherine Strong (Friend) on: Jul 05, 2024

So sorry to hear of Diane's passing. My condolences to her family and friends. I went to law school with Diane in Winnipeg so many years ago now. She was a good friend to me at university and in the early years of legal practice. Unfortunately we lost touch in the late 90s after I moved to Alberta. I always admired Diane's dedication to helping those in need of social justice in our society, as evidenced by her long career at Legal Aid Manitoba. She was an unflagging advocate for them and for all who were disadvantaged. - Posted by: Debra Hathaway (Friend/classmate) on: Jul 04, 2024

On behalf of the WGH/HSC Nurses’ Alumni Association we extend our sincere condolences to Diane’s family and friends on her recent passing. Diane graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969, the youngest graduate in her class. She worked as a nurse for a few years and then pursued a law degree and practised law for the majority of her work life. However, she maintained a close relationship with her nursing classmates and attended their 5 year reunions over many years. She will be fondly remembered and missed at future nursing alumni events. - Posted by: Carol Galbraith (Friendship Convenor. WGH/HSC Nurses’ AssociatIon) on: Jul 02, 2024

My sincere condolences to the Dzydz family - you did indeed mean the world to Diane. We first crossed paths when Diane was working at Children's Hospital and I was a paediatrics instructor at U of M. Little did we anticipate that we'd both end up in law school together. At the time, we both lived on Roslyn Road, so we car-pooled together for 3 years. I moved away from Winnipeg, but we stayed in touch over the years, exchanging newsy emails about our families at Christmas, and infrequently seeing one another in person, either in Victoria or Winnipeg. I knew Diane had been experiencing health issues in recent years, but had not heard from her in some time. Arnes was her sanctuary - every year at law school, she enjoyed the bounty of her garden with cucumber or tomato sandwiches the first few weeks of the fall semester. She especially seemed to enjoy retreating there during the pandemic. I'm so very sorry to hear of her passing, and I will remember her fondly. - Posted by: Lois Toms (Friend) on: Jun 29, 2024

To the Dzydz family - My very sincerest sympathy on the untimely and sudden passing of your/our dear Diane. Learning of her passing has deeply shaken many of her dear friends/neighbours of some 30 year's time. Diane was a mover and shaker of effecting anything and everything which needed to be done within our condominium community as president/director on the condo board for most of those 30 years. Her contributions exceeded that of all other directors here combined! No one could do the job of president better...her expertise, competence, diligence and fairness were unmatched. No one could ask for a truer friend! She is and will continue to be profoundly missed. She will not be forgotten. May she have a peaceful repose at her beloved Arnes. Much love and condolences, Helen Feniuk - Posted by: Helen Feniuk (Neighbour/friend) on: Jun 27, 2024
