BARBARA BARNES
After a lengthy battle with heart disease, Barbara Barnes (nee Geisler) passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends on June 19, 2024.
She was predeceased by her husband Ed and daughter Shannon. She is survived by her son Sean; daughter-in-law Kristine; grandchildren, Mitchell and Kendall; brother Ron Geisler and spouse Joan and their children, Debbie, Deanne, Denise, Randy and Susie; Ed’s sister Sharon Brandstrom, and her children, Kristi and Kelli. Barb is also survived by her partner Neil Tuerlings.
In the months preceding Barb’s passing as her mobility decreased she was incredibly well supported by relatives and friends alike. We express a heartfelt thank you to our Barnes and Geisler relatives and a special thank you to the Jasper family in Brandon for being there in our time of need.
Barb grew up in Ashern, MB where she was a strong student and enjoyed track and field. She met Ed Barnes who was a classmate and after high school they were married. They settled in Stonewall in 1971 with Ed pursuing his career as an air traffic controller and Barb found employment at the Centennial school in Stonewall as the admin assistant. She could type over 100 words per minute and loved working at the school for over 30 years making lifelong friends. She was an avid curler and watching curling was something she enjoyed throughout her life. She loved crafting, cooking, board games and puzzles. Entertaining family and friends was a joy in her life.
In 2005 she lost Ed in a tragic accident and in 2016 her daughter Shannon lost a long battle with cancer. Barb persevered through these challenges later in her life. She wintered in Texas and met fellow Manitoban snowbird Neil in 2008. Neil has been her partner and companion and we are grateful that she had him in her life for the last 15 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Stonewall Legion on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

Some people just have that special touch in your life that you never forget.❤️Mrs Barnes was that person. I was blessed to have her growing up and will never forget her kind and caring ways. My fondest memories were days at the pool eating her home made popsicles. (the ones made from the Tupperware molds)😉 It's all the little things things that mean the most when you look back! I will be forever grateful for this beautiful lady in my life. 🙏 - Posted by: Ronna Neale (Friend) on: Jun 23, 2024

Barb had such a great sense of humor and I will fondly remember our holiday in Mexico together. I'll always remember my husband Garry wanting to tease her and said "Barb, take a message for me" and she replied "Garry, take a hike" Rest in peace my dear. - Posted by: carol munson ( a friend from a long time ago) on: Jun 22, 2024

Our condolences to all the extended family especially Sean and Neil. We were shocked to learn of Barb's passing and recall only pleasant fun filled laughter and crazy antics when remembering our times in Ottawa, Winnipeg and even here in Diamond Valley. Your similar memories of Barb will definitely recall a life well lived, enjoyed, participated in, mentored to and someone who was a constant, stable, and thoughtful individual. We are richer for having known you. - Posted by: Mae and Carl Fisher (Longtime friends ) on: Jun 22, 2024
