ELIZABETH (BETTY) GUNLAUGSON
Peacefully on June 19, 2024, Elizabeth Gunlaugson passed away.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon and sister Ann. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ken and Jim (Patti) as well as her beloved granddog Sierra.
Betty, as she was known to all, went to Principal Sparling Elementary School and Daniel Macintyre High School. In 1949 Mom hired on at the old Ashdown’s Hardware Store on Main Street. There she met the love of her life Gordy Gunlaugson. They were married in May of 1956.
Betty continued on working then took time off for a couple boys. When the boys got a little older Mom went back to work at Woolworths. She retired in 1996 from Wal-Mart as the cash office supervisor. Betty was heavily involved with Bourkevale Community Club, being with the Ladies Auxiliary, Treasurer and Bingo caller (If anyone remembers Tuesday night Bingo). The most important part for us boys while Dad was working out of town, she was a “hockey mom”. Betty enjoyed going up the Gunnlaugson's farm at the Narrows. Many hours were spent slaving over the stove feeding the boys during haying season and calving time in the spring. Betty's favourite time was going up to Gull Lake with her sister-in-law Mugga Macintosh.
Years after Gordy’s passing, Betty met Bob and the two of them enjoyed planting huge gardens at Bob’s home in Starbuck. They also loved camping and fishing at Big Rock Campground where many hours were spent sitting around the campfire with friends and of course, a glass of Hochtaler in hand.
We love you Mom
and will miss you very much!
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society.
