JOSEPH GEORGE GAREAU

February 10, 1941 - June 21, 2024


Joseph George Gareau, affectionately known as "Wabiskha" during his youth and "Papa George" later in life, was born on February 10, 1941, in Eriksdale, Manitoba. He was baptized on May 5, 1941, in St. Laurent, Manitoba. George passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024 with family by his side, at the Actionmarguerite Centre in St. Vital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

George is survived by Lorraine Gareau, the love of his life and devoted wife of 58 years. He is also survived by his elder siblings, Aline Buors and Edward Gareau; his sons, Leonard (Tanya) and Brian (Nicole) Gareau; and his cherished grandchildren, Lillian and Joseph Gareau.

George was predeceased by his parents, Laurier and Aline Gareau; his elder siblings, Arthur Gareau and Cecil Devlin; and his younger sibling, Wilfred Gareau.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for July 10, 2024 at the TC Energy Centre, on 1 Rivard Street in Ile des Chênes, Manitoba. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments and sandwiches will be served. The interment of the ashes at the columbarium in the Ile Des Chenes cemetery will be held separately. The family thanks the staff at Actionmaguerite for their excellent care of Dad and the compassion they displayed.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Actionmarguerite Foundation.

George's love of family, friends and music will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
