Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERIKA HOBSON (KOOP)
Our family is heartbroken in announcing the sudden passing of Erika Hobson (Koop) on Saturday June 22, 2024, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Koop (Martens) born May 22, 1944.
Erika leaves to mourn her beloved husband Ken of 63 years, (Butch to Mom, family and lifelong friends); daughters, Sherry (Richard) and Lynnette (Brian); grandsons, Jordan (Kerri), Jason, Derek (Charlotte); and great-grandson Maloe.
Erika was truly a middle child with five older siblings and five younger. All are mourning her loss along with Dad’s family, nieces, nephews, countless cousins and many friends.
Erika was a force to be reckoned with. You always knew where you stood especially when “debating” countless subjects. She was very well read so even when you thought you might be able to change her mind, more often than not she would change yours.
Erika was a very accomplished and respected manager in the retail field and when Dad decided to make the move and venture out and start a business, she was right by his side. Together they were unstoppable and accomplished many things. Starting their married life with literally nothing, they always strove to move upward and beyond which is exactly what they did. Together they founded a family business which just celebrated 35 years only the day before her passing.
Just as our Mom worked very hard, she loved even harder. We knew we were loved totally and unconditionally. Nothing made her happier than seeing us all around her dining room table. Any reason was a good enough reason for us to gather…and debate.
Mom you taught us well. We will honour your memory and speak of you often. Dad speaks of his love for you and how that will never change. Even in going through these difficult times with out you, Dad is asking for your thoughts on many things and your answers are coming through loud and clear. Just like we knew they would.
You are so loved by so many but you were ours and we were yours. That will never change. We love you.
A gathering of family and friends to honour Erika will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg.

I am so saddened to hear this news and wish I could have attended her service. I had the honour of knowing Erika for many years through our work connection. She was one smart lady and I truly admired her ability to problem solve. Whenever I attended at work she always welcomed me warmly and made me feel one of the gang. I considered her a friend not just a business associate. Erika always talked about her family, and there were always pictures in the office. I am sure this is a big loss to your family. My deepest heartfelt condolences to Ken, Sherry and Lynnette, and all of the family. Love Laurie - Posted by: Laurie Barthels (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2024

As a part of the large extended family of “Koop” Cousins I am so grateful for the opportunity Erika and Ken offered us in opening their home for a wonderful cousins gathering just 9 days before her passing. The news came as a shock to all of us, and our hearts ache with yours. We are keeping all of you Ken and Sherry and Lynette and families, as well as all of Erika’s siblings, our cousins in our thoughts and prayers as you proceed onward. Love to you all, Charlotte - Posted by: Charlotte Livingston (Cousin ) on: Jul 02, 2024
