SHIRLEY DIANNE KESSLER

(nee HUSTON)

January 4, 1941 – June 23, 2024

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Shirley Dianne Kessler.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband E. Alan Kessler in 2019 and her daughter Laurie Kessler in 2014.

She is survived by her son Kevin Kessler and his wife Sharon Kessler and two loving granddaughters Kaylene Hurley (Connor) and Shayla Kessler (Braeden).

Shirley spent the majority of her working career as the secretary and treasurer and CO founder of New West Metals Inc. where a strong family business was created selling specialty metals across Canada.

Shirley loved to travel the world and eventually settled down in Palm Desert for 13 sunny winters where Shirley and Alan developed many friendships along the way. Shirley had a competitive nature in everything and anything that she did. She loved to play sports in her early years and this competitive fire continued to burn when she would spend time cheering on her beloved Jets and Blue Bombers.

Shirley spent the past four years at the Court Yards at Linden Pointe. She enjoyed the many social activities this lifestyle offered where many new friends were made on her final journey. Shirley’s motto to live by was “Put on your big girl panties and deal with it”! And that she did throughout the many challenges that she faced… life was not easy for Shirley, but it was a life well lived, Mom you will be missed by many loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2024, at The Gates on Roblin, 6945 Roblin Blvd. from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If friends desire, a donation in Shirley’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

You are always loved,

Never forgotten,

Forever missed.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • It was always a great joy spending time with Shirley while cutting her hair over the last 10 years. Her and Alan used to come in together for their haircuts and you could see the love they had for each other. It was beautiful to witness. Shirley will be greatly missed by the whole salon and we all send our deepest sympathies to her family. - Posted by: James (Hairdresser) on: Jul 17, 2024

  • My husband Brian and I were friends of Shirley and Alan for many years. Shirley and I attended high school together. Brian knew Alan when they were very young. Alan and Shirley loved to entertain and they did so with flair. It was an honour to know both of them. We live in White Rock know and did not get to see Shirley often but we always kept in touch. Fun time and happy memories. Sincere sympathy to Kevin and family. Gail Reilly - Posted by: Gail Reilly (friend) on: Jul 06, 2024

  • I first got to know Shirley and Alan when they engaged me to market their Wellington Crescent condo over 10 years ago. Shirley and Alan were a lovely couple and we quickly became very comfortable with each others company. After that sale, they (and Laurie) engaged me to market their daughter Laurie’s condo in Tuxedo. Laurie was quite ill and having lost my own daughter to cancer, I was able to relate to them in a unique way. A few years later Alan passed away and Shirley decided to sell the Litchfield condo I had sold them years before. She Called me up and we set out on accomplishing this task for her as well. I always enjoyed my conversations with Shirley (and Alan). She was a very practical person and very kind. I chuckled when I read the comment about “putting on your big girl panties”. That was Shirley! I was so sad to hear of her passing. Having been involved with her and Alan in our real estate dealings, meeting Laurie, and hearing many stories about Palm Springs and other things from Shirley, I felt like I was more than just their Realtor. The world has become a poorer place now that Alan, Laurie and Shirley have passed. I am glad that I had the opportunity to know them and share some time with them. - Posted by: Cliff King (Business acquaintance) on: Jul 06, 2024
