MONA NOYES
Mona Noyes of Winnipeg passed away peacefully at the Saul and Clarabelle Simkin Centre on June 28, 2024, with her son at her side.
Beloved mother of Ross, Heather (John), Colleen (Kim) and Guy (deceased). Stepmother to Lorna Watson and Bob Noyes (deceased). Much loved grandmother of Sean, Mackenzie and Brooklyn. Step-grandmother to Dawn, Debbie and Jeff Noyes and Bob Watson.
Predeceased by husbands, John Joseph MacDonald (1962) and Robert Ford Noyes (1997), brother Jack Carter and sister-in-law Jenny Carter, her mother Cora and father Harry Carter.
Fondly remembered by her brother Edward Carter, her nieces and nephews and many friends and co-workers.
Mona was born in The Pas, Manitoba. She spent her childhood and grew up “up north" in Pikwitonei, Manitoba before snowmobiles, electricity, and running water were available and enjoyed snowshoeing, skiing, and pioneer life in Canada's North Country. She spent her childhood in an era when the only travel “up north” was by dogsled and train.
Mona attended high school at Kelvin High School and trained as a secretary and worked at the Canadian National Railways in Winnipeg for 10 years until her first marriage. In 1965, as a widow, she married Bob Noyes Sr. Following the raising of her four children, she returned to the workforce and worked at Great West Life until her retirement in 1990.
Mona was an avid walker and swimmer and enjoyed many happy summers at Caddy Lake. She enjoyed a party and a good laugh and was very proud of her grandchildren. Mona liked to travel and went to Britain, Europe, Australia, the U.S. and across Canada and cruised the Caribbean and the Inside Strait to Alaska. Mona was intelligent and gregarious, easily striking up a friendly conversation with others whether it be on a train, ship or an elevator.
Mona kept many lifelong friends from the North, Norwood, and St. Vital and was always up for a trip to the zoo, a parade or an ice cream.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Simkin Centre for the years of care and compassion that Mona received there.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., at 10:00 a.m.
Donations in Mona’s name may be made to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3.

I sure have some good memories of Mona at the lake, from when I was about 8 years old, so half a century or so. Mona always took an interest in what I was doing. She would always remember what was going on in my life the previous year when we would see each other again the next summer. She was a caring person and would thoughtfully ask me about things. Mona was a very intelligent and cheery person, and I can still hear her hearty laugh. She was also one of the best swimmers on the lake. My sympathy goes out to Colleen, Heather and Ross. We sure had some good lake days together. Love Janet. - Posted by: Janet Hurkett (Lake neighbour) on: Jul 05, 2024
