DONALD (DON) GORDON JACKSON

July 30, 1941 – June 15, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald (Don) Gordon Jackson, age 82. Don passed away at the Souris Health Centre on June 15, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He continued to live life one day at a time until the very end.

Don was born in Brandon Hospital on July 30, 1941, and spent his growing years in Souris, MB. He attended the local school through to grade 12 and continued his education to obtain his Agricultural Diploma at University of Manitoba.

Starting at the age of 16 Don worked with his father Hugh and Brother Doug with HG Jackson and Sons, buying and selling cattle throughout Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan. In 1975 he left the cattle business and pursued a career in real estate. Don was a lifelong entrepreneur and his farm real estate career would take him from Manitoba to Ontario, and back to the prairies of Saskatchewan.

On July 26, 1963, he married the love of his life, Donna Busby. A year later they welcomed a daughter Julie, followed three years later by daughter Lisa.

Don had many interests; he was an avid daily golfer, he loved to read history and mystery, he loved cars old and new, most of all in retirement he loved to travel, which he shared with his favourite travel partner, his wife Donna.

Left to cherish his memory are wife Donna, daughters Julie (Chris) Anderson of Carberry, MB, Lisa (Shawn) Brown of Camrose, AB, grandchildren Riley Lowe (Amanda Kucher) of Brandon, MB, Jackson (Kelsey, Charlotte, Madeline, Barrett) Lowe of Calgary, AB, Dylan (Lauren) Brown of Sherwood Park, AB, Kristen (Brett) Meyer of Sherwood Park, AB, and many nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Ruth Jackson, brother Doug Jackson, sister Lorraine McGill, father-in-law Clem Busby, mother-in-law Jean Busby, sister-in-law Pat Rowe, and brother-in-law Brian Rowe.

A funeral service to honour Don's memory was held on June 22, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Church in Souris, MB.

Donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Souris Foundation or the Canadian Cancer society.
