BETTY ROSEMARIE LINDENSCHMIDT

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Rosemarie Lindenschmidt on July 2, 2024, at Selkirk Regional Health Centre, with her family by her side.

Betty was born on August 21, 1928, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents, Betty and Gustav Oelkers. She had very fond memories of visits to her grandparents’ farm in Waldhof, Ontario. Upon graduation from high school, she worked at her father's business, The Caxton Press, prior to starting a family.

She was predeceased by her husband Fred Lindenschmidt in 2018.

She is survived by her son Fred (Marilyn), son Richard (Diane), daughter Lisa (Rod), as well as grandchildren, Richard Brian (Dyana), Jennifer, Thomas (Katie), Stephen (Sara) and Robert, and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Rayna - all of whom enjoyed spending time with her, while doing puzzles, working in the garden, or watching her favourite TV shows.

With close support from her family, Betty was fortunate to be able to stay comfortably in her home up until the last few days

She loved gardening, hated weeds, and loved a good rain (so you could not get into the garden for three days).

She adored her two cats, Finn and Mumford. She was forever passing Mumford treats and enjoyed her afternoon naps with Finn.

In earlier times, she enjoyed the family cabin at Austin Lake, especially in the company of her grandchildren. Betty and Fred also liked to visit antique stores and flea markets, always on the hunt for another piece of Depression Glass for her collection.

She spent many an hour doing needlepoint, petit point, cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles and the daily Jumble. She loved a good book, but always read the end first.

She loved the family trips to Fargo to visit her favourite shops and restaurants, and was fortunate to experience both Alaskan and Atlantic Maritime cruises with her family.

In the last few weeks, as her memory was failing, she kept asking about Dad and relatives long gone. Well, now she is with them again, no doubt enjoying a glass of champagne, too!

We would like to thank the caring staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion.

There will be no formal funeral service. A private service will be held at a later date.

If desired, donations in Betty's memory may be made to Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre (wildlifehaven.ca) or the Selkirk & District Community Foundation (sdcf.ca).

Afterglow

I'd like the memory of me

to be a happy one.

I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles

when life is done.

I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly

down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times

and bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who grieve,

to dry before the sun;

Of happy memories that I leave

when life is done.
