Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN WILLA GALLIE
With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Willa Gallie on June 24, 2024, at her residence in Charleswood Personal Care Home, at the age of 89.
Survived by her husband Donald Gallie, her children, Christy Preston (Bob), and Todd McGreevy (Cathy), her grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Adam and Alexander, stepdaughter, Liz Moffatt and family, sisters, Wendy Broadfoot (Ken) and Brenda Heinricks (Doug); predeceased by her brother Ronald Rutherford (Judy), her parents, Jack and Willa Rutherford and stepson, Andrew Gallie. She will also be sadly missed but joyfully remembered by her many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Joan was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan and moved to Glenboro, Manitoba at a young age. She moved to Winnipeg as a young adult to begin her career, starting work at International Harvester and later as a medical office assistant.
Joan loved music and enjoyed many years singing with the Sweet Adelines. She also directed a nurses’ choir and played piano.
She married her husband Don Gallie in 1976 in Winnipeg. Together they spent several weeks as snowbirds each winter, appreciating the warmth of Florida. In the early days, summers were spent at the cottage at Victoria Beach; in later days, summers were the time to spend poolside at home, with family and friends visiting regularly.
Joan will be forever loved and deeply missed by her family, friends, and all that knew her.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Charleswood Personal Care Home for their supportive care of Mom during her time there.
A gathering to celebrate Joan will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of one's choosing.
