Alan William Smalley (Al) passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit.
Al was born at his family home in the Blanchard Municipality, March 14, 1933, to parents Joe and Ruth Smalley. As the story goes, his grandmother Annie delivered him. He always called Kenton home.
Al worked for the CIBC (formerly the Bank of Commerce) for 38 years. His banking career led him to many towns in Manitoba where he made long and lasting friendships.
Al always loved sports, especially golf and curling. However his curling was really his favourite and led to many successful wins as Skip or another position. His most rewarding season was the year he won the Manitoba Masters Zone. This led him and his team to the Western Canada Masters Championship in Oliver, BC. Although he didn’t win, it was one of his most memorable times.
Al was predeceased by his parents Joe and Ruth Smalley. His first wife Joyce (Brynelson), his brothers Gordon (Aileen) and Joe (Dorothy) and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
Al will be remembered by his wife Donna, his daughters Sandra (Kim), Nancy (Stephen), Linda (Ray), Sharon (Mark) and his stepson Kevin Harris (Michelle). He leaves, with much pride, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at Trinity United Church, 1515 - 6th St. Brandon, on Wednesday, July, 24, 2024 at 1:30 pm.
Donations in Al’s name may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation -Palliative Care Unit, 150 McTavish Ave. E, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
