Annetta Tennant (nee Jansen), born October 19, 1919, passed on July 13, 2024, age 104.
Predeceased by her husband Sandy (2015) and son Donald (2023). Survived by son Gary (Gilly) and daughter Deborah (Brian); grandchildren, Zoe (James), Mieka (Jacq), Max, Nathan, Jocelyn and Aislinn; great-granddaughter Rafa.
Annetta was born on a farm near Headingly, Manitoba. She had two older brothers, Edward and Wilfred, and a younger brother Gerald. She and her brothers used to ski to school and travel by horse drawn sled in winter. Her aunt and uncle and cousins lived next door on the Jansen brothers’ farm. In these last few years Mom has remembered these times very fondly and would especially mention her cousins. As a young teen, Annetta and her family relocated to Winnipeg where they lived on Banning Street. She attended General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre collegiate, as her children did after her. After completing Business College, she worked for the family business, Jansen Brothers. It was there that she met her husband, Sandy Tennant. They married in 1942 and were together 73 years until Sandy’s passing in 2015. Annetta was a partner in Sandy’s business, Tenn-Way Auto Supply, as well as raising their three children. Her children appreciated her typing skills when a last-minute essay was looming.
She was an active member of Harstone United Church and UCW and was a life member of The Order of the Eastern Star. Annetta enjoyed golf and she and Sandy would regularly play multiple rounds with brother, Wilf, and sister-law, Alice, at Winnipeg Beach, where they had a cottage. Annetta and Sandy were original residents of Fred Douglas Place. Annetta enjoyed the social life there as well as reading voraciously and whipping up a pair of knit slippers in an evening. She and Sandy travelled frequently to Vancouver and Toronto to see their grandchildren, who loved Grandma and her shortbread cookies. After Sandy’s passing, she continued to live independently until 2020, when a fall necessitated a move to River Park Gardens.
The family is grateful to the residents of FDP who helped Annetta through this difficult time, when COVID prevented us from being with her. At River Park Gardens, Annetta received excellent and kind care. We would like to personally thank each of the staff who supported, encouraged, joked with, and cared for our mother and ourselves as we journeyed through the last four years. You made the difficult manageable and very often, enjoyable. You have developed a very special place, and we feel very lucky to have landed at River Park Gardens.
At Annetta’s request and in accordance with her retiring nature, there will be no funeral. If desired, a donation in her name through Canada Helps to the Spiritual Care Program at River Park Gardens would be greatly appreciated.

Auntie Annetta was as nice a person as she was a wonderful Aunt with always that big welcoming smile to greet us Jansen kids + anyone who crossed her path. My father Wilfred (auntie Annetta's younger brother) spoke so highly of her throughout his life esp. during their childhood they shared together on the farm in Headingly,Man. The Jansen Family so enjoyed her company along with uncle Sandy, Gary, Debbie and Donnie during our visits to both the Banning address with Uncle Bill/Auntie Flo + esp. on Downing st. where Tea was always the staple drink. Great Memories from those days + The Tennant's were a large part of that. Wow 104 near 105 years old what an amazing productive super long life Auntie Annetta led along with Uncle Sandy at 100 also. RIP Auntie Annetta + TY for the memories esp. your unforgettable smile + great kindness. Randall Jansen Winnipeg, Manitoba - Posted by: RANDALL JANSEN (Nephew) on: Jul 20, 2024

My sincere condolences to Annette's family. I moved to Fred Douglas Place in June 2015, so had not met Annette's husband, but I did get to know her over the next years. She was a quiet, calm and lovely lady with whom I had several delightful visits at some of our communal evening meals, some of which were attended by Gary on his frequent visits to see his mother. May you be comforted by the memories of a loving mother and grandmother and may she rest in peace. - Posted by: Gayle Moore-Morrans (former neighbour) on: Jul 20, 2024
