It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mom and grandma, Gloria Marlene Kiel, of Teulon, MB on July 16, 2024.
Marlene is survived by sons, Kevin (Beverley), Brad (Debbie) and grandsons, Tyler, Carter (Hailey), Riley (Haley) and Cameron. Marlene is also survived by siblings, Diane, Brenda and Gerry (Barb), in-laws, Rose and Marvin (Gladys), nieces, Deb (Ray), Amanda (Eric), nephews, Doug (Laverne), Dennis (Daphne), Cory (Celine) and great-nephews, Mackenzie and Elliott (Britni). Marlene was predeceased by Kenneth her husband of 53 years, parents, Roy and Thelma Langner and Emil and Elsie Kiel, siblings, Greg, Cheryl and Cliff Langner and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Kiel and Ed Stevenson.
Marlene was born in Beausejour on August 28, 1938. She grew up surrounded by family and was the oldest of seven children. She shared stories of her many aunts, uncles and cousins from both the Langner and Selch families. In 1963, Ken and Marlene were married and lived in Winnipeg until 1966 when they bought the farm at Pleasant Home. She looked after the pigs and chickens, tended the garden and canned the produce. There was never a shortage of baking and treats in the house even as she began to face the challenges of living with Multiple Sclerosis. A disease she faced with courage and determination for 50 years.
Marlene’s greatest joy came from her sons and their families. She would light up when the family came to visit. Her memory was impeccable, and she kept track of everyone’s coming and goings and couldn’t wait to hear all about them.
In 2017, after Ken’s passing, Marlene moved to Goodwin Lodge where she enjoyed many new friendships with residents and staff.
Our heartfelt thanks are extended to the staff at Goodwin Lodge for her care and to our family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held on July 22, 2024, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church Highway 7, Teulon, Manitoba at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Box 86 Teulon, MB.
