DENYS ALPHONSE LA RIVIERE

September 19, 1942 - July 18, 2024

As the sun rose above the horizon on July 18, 2024, Denys Alphonse La Rivière, born on September 19, 1942, peacefully passed away.

Denys was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne (née Lachance), and their four sons, Marc (Korrina), Stéphane, Philippe (Jennifer), and Christian (Chau). Denys' legacy continues through his 12 adoring grandchildren, (Alexandre, Marianna, Angéline, Abigayle, Amélie, Lucie, Gabriel, Ava Kathryn, Léa, Harold, Sébastien, and Dominic) who brought immense joy to his life. He leaves also to mourn his sister Lucille (André) La Rochelle and brother René La Rivière.

Denys’ life was marked by his dedication to his family, his unwavering love and support for them, and his talent for telling elaborate stories that captivated all who listened. He was a committed manager at Manitoba Blue Cross, where his colleagues knew him well for his perfectly straight lines and his tissue with his pen dabbing marks. He instilled the love of traveling and exploring the world in his children by committing yearly summer travels. Whether it was in the back of a van or the campground trailer, he created memories that will last forever. His senior years were spent on the golf course with regular Thursday morning rounds with his crew. He also devoted much of his time volunteering generously, giving back to his community through his involvement with the local scouts group and his church.

He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and the warm smile that he shared with everyone he met. He made a dedicated effort to make it to all his grandchildren’s events, whether they be a simple skating practice, soccer game, piano concert, or hockey game, and so many other activities. Grandpapa was always there cheering them on. His family and friends will forever hold his memory in their hearts, cherishing the moments, the love, and the rich tales he bestowed upon them.

A Funeral Mass will be held to honour Denys’ life and legacy at the Parish of Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with public viewing at 9:30 a.m.

The family would like to thank the numerous care providers at the HSC ER, D4 Medicine, the Victoria General Hospital 4 South, and the WRHA Palliative Care Program.

Denys’ presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace while enjoying all the Tiger Tail ice cream.
