Mom was born on January 17, 1925, in the small agricultural town of Sellingen, Netherlands. It was there at a church meeting, that she met the love of her life, Derk. After a three year engagement they married on April 1, 1948 and began their 70 year long marriage. Soon after getting married they immigrated to Canada, where they worked on a farm for dad’s uncle near Carlyle, Saskatchewan. After a short while, they moved to Winnipeg where dad started R&D Concrete. With the business next door mom was a full time homemaker as well as the receptionist, order desk, pay clerk and bookkeeper.

After mom and dad sold their business, they loved going south in the winter, camping in summer and going to the Saturday garage sales in the neighbourhood. Mom enjoyed gardening, singing in the church choir, volunteering in the Ladies church group and Christian School library, making flower arrangements for church events and spending time with her friends She was a great bowler and was member of a Ladies league at Rossmere Lanes.

They were lifelong members of Kildonan/Covenant Christian Reformed Church and Calvin Christian School.

Mom will be laid to rest at a private family gathering on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Sunnyside Cemetery, Oakbank, Manitoba.

The Folkers families would like to thank the staff at Oakview and Donwood Manor Personal Care Homes for taking excellent care of mom. Also a special mention to Joan, Karl and Dorothy for all the help and companionship to mom after dad died.
