Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY MARGARET EVANS
Peacefully on July 26, 2024, Mary Margaret Evans passed away at the Charleswood Care Centre.
Born to Marguerite and Joseph Laramee, Mary was the third of five children, all have predeceased her.
Mary attended St. Ignatius School and St. Mary's Academy - solidifying her life- long strong Catholic faith. She enjoyed and proudly supported St. Mary's Alumni.
Mary married Thomas Arthur (Art) Evans and in coming years, with the addition of Joyce and Lorne, her family was complete. As the years rolled by the family expanded with the addition of the children's spouses and three grandsons. The role of becoming a grandmother she described as the greatest gift from God.
Mary worked outside of the home at Systems equipment followed by Canada Safeway until her retirement in 1999. Mary's interests included floral design, sewing, crocheting, baking, cake decorating, the church choir and volunteering. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League at both the St. Vital Parish and Mary, Mother of the Church for 60 years. The CWL was a very important part of Mary's devotion to her faith. She had served as President for two terms at the St Vital CWL, enjoying the service and friendships she developed and loved to travel to the CWL National Conventions.
Mary always remembered fondly trips she and Art made to Wales and England to spend time with the Evans relatives. She loved to host a family party or attend any social event. She enjoyed the Reh Fit Center, curling at the Pembina and Fort Rouge Curling clubs and was a member of the Fort Garry Legion where she enjoyed the camaraderie, social events and Shuffleboard.
As Art declined with Parkinson’s, Mary was adamant to keep him home as long as possible. This huge feat was done with strong determination, selflessness and unwavering love for Art. Her world was never the same after Art's passing in 2011, missing him immensely each and every day.
Predeceased by her beloved Art and grandson Thomas, Mary is survived by Joyce (Doug), Lorne (Andrea), three grandsons, Brett (Raluca), Kyle Alexis) and Clayton. Great-grandchildren Margaret, Adeline, Kynlee and Rylee, sister-in-law Grace Laramee and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Our family gives thanks to Mom's friends, especially; Lorraine Roth and Pat Kernot, her neighbours, Dr. Michelle Evans for her many years of caring, WRHA home care staff and SOGH staff. Mere words cannot express enough our sincere appreciation for the compassionate care, respect and support the staff provided at Charleswood Care Center since November 2023.
A Funeral Service for Mary will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Vital Parish, 1629 Pembina Hwy, Winnipeg, MB. Graveside service and reception to follow at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

Joyce and Lorne and Families, On behalf of the Fort Garry Legion Ladies Auxiliary are deepest sympathy to the loss of your mother. Mary was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary and always had us on our toes at our meetings. She was always there to assist with baking, selling tickets, making sandwiches etc. In her earlier years she was assisting in the kitchen with the likes of Pat Kernot, Betty Marks, Joan Hardwick and many more. After giving up her car Mary could be found walking to Legion to join in the Meats Draws, Chase the Ace and other Special Events. Someone always made sure Mary made it home Safely and in her house. Sr. Shuffleboard was another event Mary participated in, and made the headlines of the Metro, (local newspaper) with her Shuffleboard Skills. We have missed her pleasant personality and witty comments. Thinking of you all. - Posted by: BRENDA (KERNOT) MACLENNAN (Fort Garry Girl and FG Legion Ladies Auxilairy) on: Aug 06, 2024

To Joyce, Lorne & family: It is with deep sadness reading of Mary's passing. My mother Nancy {Rae) and Mary were the best of friends, working together at Systems and of course the friendship with my Dad, Bill and Art, were such a site to see and hear. I have wonderful memories of Mary and Art as told by my parents. It's a difficult journey that you are travelling but know that your memories will help manage this time in your life. So sorry to know that Mary was in Charleswood Care Centre as that was my Dad's last home. Thinking of you. - Posted by: Irene Falconer (friend of the family) on: Aug 03, 2024
