EMMELINE (EMILY) ROSE BILEWITCH

March 26, 1937 - July 29, 2024

With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Emmeline Bilewitch (Emily) from natural causes on July 29, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Emily was born to Wilhelm and Jaqueline Hemminger and raised in Stead, Manitoba with her nine siblings. She moved to Winnipeg at 18 years of age after the passing of both her parents and worked at MTS and later Hudson Bay Co. in Thompson, MB. She married Tom in 1964 and they began their family life together.

Emily was kind, gentle-spirited, generous, and adventurous only in her choice of literature. She took pride in meticulous home-keeping, gardening, quilting, sewing, preparing large family meals, and had a knack for sneaking garden vegetables into her baking, and for modestly evading photographs. Although well travelled, she mostly enjoyed the simplicity of cottage life at Lake Malachi, where her children and grandchildren ran wild, and she found time to enjoy reading novels and listening to country music. While family and home were the centre of Emily’s life, she established deep ties at Lockport Community Church, Lake Malachi, and with her neighbours in Lockport, Manitoba.

Emily is survived by her incredible husband of 60 years, Tom Bilewitch who cared for her at home in her final years, and children, Leslie (Cory) Whitney, Blaine Bilewitch, Shelley Marshall (Rejean Ricard), and Teri Lynn Bilewitch (Dillon Claassens); grandchildren, Sean, Pepper, Abby, and Kai; and brother Bill Hemminger. She was predeceased by siblings, Margaret, Norman, Avalt, Anne, Olive, Fred, May, and Lucy. Emily was deeply loved and we will forever miss her beautiful smile.

Celebration of Life will be held at Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in Emily’s honour may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
