MAY PARKIN

May 11, 1925 – August 2, 2024

May Parkin passed away peacefully, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Fairview Home at the age of 99.

May was the first born of Cecil and Edith Meadows. She was born on May 11, 1925, and she grew up in the Glanton district and lived there for the majority of her life. When she was quite young, she suffered an injury from falling out of a car and as a result lived her life with a handicapped right hand. She spent quite a bit of time in Shriner’s Hospital in Winnipeg during her recovery. This never held her back from doing anything she wanted to do or accomplish. Her strong determination never faded. She took her schooling at Gourlay School.

In November 1945 she married William Parkin and they farmed and raised their family together for almost 55 years. May was an active community leader and was always involved in Glanton North Group, Glanton Community Centre, Forrest United Church, UCW and the Forrest Community Rink. She loved to curl and later in life loved to watch curling on television as well as following her beloved Blue Jays. May was always quick to lend a hand whenever needed with nothing expected in return. She was an accomplished seamstress and did many alterations for family and friends in the community as well as working at Pennington’s doing sewing and sales. She made many wedding and bridesmaid dresses including her daughter’s and granddaughter’s. She loved to knit and crotchet making countless numbers of toques, mitts, blankets, sweaters, and doilies to name a few. Living on a farm and raising a family was a busy life and May took it all in stride and helped doing farm work, milking cows, and raising chickens for meat and to sell. She always had a large vegetable garden, and her flowers were always something to be admired. The vegetables were canned and pickled so they could be enjoyed in the winter. She was an excellent homemaker and meals were always homemade and delicious. May loved to have company and no one ever left without having a cup of tea or coffee and a taste of her delicious baking.

May was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Edith Meadows, her husband, Parky, her siblings, Ward (Ethel) Meadows, Evelyn (Art) Cleaver, Cecil Meadows and Marion (Bruce) Cleaver. Left to mourn her memory are her family, Dennis (Jackie), Linda (Jack), and David (Brenda). She leaves behind her precious grandchildren all of whom she was so proud of; Rhonda, Steve (Shelley), Michael (Jenn). Amber (Darcy), and Sean. Her great-grandchildren, Jayvis, Quinton, Parker, Piper, Christopher, Emma, Bailee, and Cole. Nothing gave her more pleasure than hearing about the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their activities and accomplishments.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Humesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank all the 2nd floor staff at Fairview Home for their wonderful care and compassion to Mom over the last two years. Your kindness is so sincerely appreciated.
