CYNTHIA MARINA JOSEPH
It's with great sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Cynthia Joseph (Betancourt) on August 1, 2024 at the age of 89.
She is survived by her children, Diane (Devon), Derrick (Kim); grandchildren, Toujana, Kasarah, Alyssa, Teneal, Trent, and Caiden; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Elodie’, Traeden, Eli, Taelyn and Cooper; also her brother Jorge Betancourt. She was predeceased by her parents, Millicent and Eliso Betancourt; her five siblings; as well as Archie, our father. Mom also had many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a kind and gentle person of faith and family. She welcomed everyone she met into her heart. She was known as “Auntie Cynthia” to many. She was always there for friends and family in their time of need.
Mom came to Winnipeg from Trinidad with our father Archie in 1956. Mom had a lengthy career at the Canadian Wheat Board. She spent many years volunteering at the Cari Cana Pavilion at Folklorama.
Mom, we are heart broken
you are gone but at peace knowing
you are with GOD.
In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
A private family Celebration of Life is planned.

My sincerest condolences to Diane, Derrick, and their families. I write this with a heavy heart as I remember 'Aunty Cynthia', who was sweet, gentle, kind, and caring. She was a friend and a mother-figure to me for many years. With fond memories I think of her and with love always, I'll remember her; taking solace in knowing she is resting with the angels until I see her again one day. - Posted by: Helen (Family friend) on: Aug 19, 2024

Gentle, loving and full of grace. So sorry to the whole family on your loss. She lived a life full of love for everyone especially her children, grandchildren and great grand children. So many wonderful memories of when we were kids. Ken and I feel so very fortunate that we were able to spend time with her and the family as adults. She taught you all love and kindness and she lived a beautiful life. Love you all - Posted by: Linda Opalko (Friend ) on: Aug 09, 2024

Diane, Derrick and family, So sorry to hear of your mum’s passing. Many happy memories hanging out at your house down in the “rec room” and playing outside on the street all summer long. Your mum was so warm and inviting; what a happy home she created. A lady of exceptional kindness, patience and grace. Thinking of you… - Posted by: Val Hildebrand (Neighbour) on: Aug 08, 2024

Kind and Gentle are the exact words that come to mind when I think of your mom. I remember her and my mom being bus buddies when they both still worked at their offices downtown. I also had the occasional bus encounter with her when I worked downtown as well. Loved bumping into her at the Safeway on Wall and Ellice and having great conversations about the family. I know that it is hard to lose the person who gave you life and has been with you every step of the way but it is harder to watch them get to a stage in their life where they are no longer able to carry on. Knowing she is in the arms of her angels and no longer in pain, will help to get you through. May all your wonderful memories of your mom and grandmother give you peace going forward. She is always in your heart. Rest in Peace Mrs. Joseph. - Posted by: Carole Bouchard-Langlois (Friend) on: Aug 08, 2024

My sincere condolences Diane and Derrick. I would often meet your Mom on her way home from work and she would stop and talk to me, not the typical neighbour talk, weather etc.....she really talked to me like our conversation was the most important thing in that moment. She had a unique elegance and grace about her that I will remember my whole life. - Posted by: Rob Springett (Neighbour) on: Aug 08, 2024
