Peacefully, on the morning of August 5, 2024, our dear beloved husband and father, Gustav Hillius peacefully passed away at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 83.

He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Alwine, their daughter, Christine, son, Peter and daughter-in law Vanessa.

Remaining to mourn him are his sister lrmgard Schumann and her family, sister-in-law Berta Schoenhofer and her family, sister-in-law Margret Hillus and her family, the Przybilski nieces and the Peitsch and Sullivan families. Also, old friends, Otto and Waltraud Grieger and their family and long-time neighbours Bob and Helen Parker and their family. Gustav loved them all!

He was predeceased by his parents, Emmanuel and Lydia Hillius, brothers, Helmut and Friedrich, sisters, Martha and Sophie and brother-in-law Franz. He is also predeceased by his parents-in-law, Paraskevia and Ertman Baron, his brother-of-the-heart Joseph Schoenhofer and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lily and Nelson Peitsch and Rosanna.

Gustav was born in Radun, Germany on February 6, 1941. He came to Canada at the age of 20. As a Tool and Die Maker, Gustav worked at Automotive Accessory. He was promoted to Plant Manager and then eventually to President of the Company until his retirement.

Gustav’s many hobbies included woodworking, fishing, gardening and mushroom and blueberry picking at Lester Beach. He excelled at every endeavour he tried. He was a wonderful and inspiring husband, father and uncle, and his family will miss him greatly.

Many thanks to the wonderful nursing and support staff at the Health Sciences Centre MICU, especially nurses Vanessa and Elle who worked tirelessly and cheerfully and provided endless TLC to Gustav and our family during a difficult time. We are forever grateful for your kindness.
