It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roberta Stokes on July 28, 2024, at the age of 69. Roberta passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Born to Rita and George Fukumura, Roberta was predeceased by her beloved parents and her brother Daniel.
Roberta is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Mark Stokes, her high school sweetheart. Their love story was one of enduring devotion and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful family, including their son Andrew, his wife Jem, and grandson Jason. Roberta is also deeply mourned by her siblings: Debby (Gilles), Theresa (Albert), Sheila (Gord), Mike (Lesley) and Linda (Darren). She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, with whom she shared countless joyful moments.
For 40 years, Roberta worked as a dedicated and compassionate nurse at the Grace Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues with her kindness and professionalism. Her commitment to her vocation was a testament to her caring nature and unwavering dedication.
Roberta's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who loved spending time with her family, especially her four sisters.
Roberta's legacy of love, compassion, and the warmth of her nurturing spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital Emergency department and ICU for the care and compassion they provided.
A private family interment will take place at Chapel Lawn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation in honour of Roberta’s lifelong commitment to helping others.

My condolences to all the family. I am so sorry to hear this. I was a neighbour to the family growing up on Buchanan Blvd. I then worked with Roberta for many years at the Grace Hospital. She was a wonderful nurse and a beautiful person. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time. I was so saddened to learn of Roberta’s death. Andrew and my son Eric were friends in elementary and junior high school, and thus I got to know Roberta. She was a kind and gentle person, with an infectious laugh. We spend many hours together watching the boys curl and I always enjoyed her lovely company. Dear Mark and Family, My sincere sympathies to you and yours and the Fukumara siblings and their families. I remember Roberta's big smile that lit up her entire face and her laugh which was definitely infectious. And I certainly remember her driving around in your cars, which I recall were older, collector models and black! The two of you were quite the match. May your memories of Roberta sustain you.
